I am not so sure that the PS3 is the end all that you claim SpenserTracy. If indeed it can play the BD-J titles that will come out then I will be most happy but a firmware upgrade may not do the trick. Seeing how all HD DVD players can since day 1 and that is nice knowing I will not need to buy a new generation model to do so.
I'm sorry web browsing on my PS3 is not a big deal. First and foremost for me it is a movie player and then a game system. I don't browse the net at...
The whole fact of the matter is it is way to early to say one side is a winner. Total HD movie sales only make up 2.5% of DVD sales so it's not like either side can claim victory. It took DVD awhile to get saturated into peoples homes and I imagine the same thing will take place with High definition players. Think of how many DVD players you currently have in some type of form. I know I have at least 4 in my house.
With HD DVD having a player come out in the $199 range thin...
Sounds like you read something similar to what I did on the AVS forums. I wonder what would happen if WB was to switch to combos to and just release on that. That is a lot of HD DVD advertisement stuff floating around and with cheap players coming an impulse buy is not out of the question.
to 7.2 where do you see Universal going neutral? Links please. What other movie companies in HD DVD's camp would go neutral? The only 3 that are exclusive are Universal(anything ever mentioned of this was just FUD), Paramount/Dreamworks (Hello Shrek Franchise, and Star Trek), and the Weinstein Co. WB is already neutral but has released several movies exclusive (Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire(Imported from the UK), Matrix collection, Constantine, and a few others) on HD...
I agree and disagree with you on this. The PS3 is nice since it can do both movies and play games. As for stand alone players I think BR is missing out. They do not have their BD-J implemented in their current machines, and out of all of them the PS3 maybe able to do so with a firmware version. Meanwhile everyone else with an earlier BR player is going to be forced to getting a new one if they want any of the movies that will have any interactive features. HD DVD players all will functio...
What is sad is that HD Disc sales of both formats are only make up 2.5% of overall disc sales.

You have to wonder where Blu Ray would be if they never included it in the PS3. It was a brilliant move by Sony to do so. I doubt the format war is over, but it will be interesting to see down the...
Before the demo I thought the story line sounded intriguing, but damn after the Demo I am totally hooked. The graphics are just insane on this game and the mood of the game is just great. I am not sure if I am going to be able to play this game at 2am it is so creepy!
The gameplay feels pretty spot on. I am hoping though that we can remap the buttons. Using Y to jump is not natural for me. Then again not sure whatever button would be good to use for jump except maybe the A...
Why support the add-on? I think it is a good way to get into HD movies cheap, but you would be better off getting a standalone HD DVD player! Better surround sound for one thing plus HDMI.
To 16.1 can you please provide a link to your information? Everything I have read on this subject is the opposite. Believe I would love to see it happen especially for the PS3, but it doesn't sound likely.
"Blu-ray owners waiting for more Java features and highly interactive releases like the recently announced Matrix compilation on HD DVD could be due for a hardware upgrade this winter. VideoBusiness is reporting that the BDA has mandated all hardware launched after October 31...
For the longest time PC games were on CD. It hasn't been that long since PC DVD games have been out. I do not think we will be seeing to many games on a BR or HD DVD for the PC. PC game studios are going to put it the format that will have the most and that is going to be DVD for awhile.
What I find interesting is that the A35 is coming in at $499 and has some awesome features. Toshiba is being smart in getting these players lower and lower. It will be interesting to see if all of the A2 models also start dropping in price with these new players coming out. If the A2 models will be around during Christmas I imagine these will get some good mark down. Prices at $199 are not that bad for an impulse buy.
What will be interesting to see though is when the next ...
crap. I was hoping the rumble would be out sooner. It is not sounding promising though. I guess I'll be getting Call of Duty 4 on my 360 instead. I'm still holding out hope that Killzone 2 will have rumble in it via an update as well as a few other games.
This article is BS. If Universal could get a TrueHD track all the extras into King Kong onto a HD-30 then Paramount could easily add a TrueHD track for sound. Space is not a limitation for HD DVD. TrueHD is a not a Lossless format for nothing. The HD DVD version gets a Dolby Digital+ track at 1.5Mbps which is still pretty good. I'd rather have TrueHD.
Checking out High-Def Digest they also list that both movies have the same extra features:
HD DVD-
Thats just the thing though. Music is very portable, but I don't see to many people walking around with a portable HDTV watching a movie. The comparision between movies and music is apples and oranges. Yes I know there are portable DVD players, but watching a movie on that is just not right in my opinion.
I agree with you on the music on the downloads. It is no big deal since music file size are around 5-6 megs for good quality MP3 songs. Movies on the other hand is a different...
Doh! wrong reply
I have both formats (HD-A1) and a PS3. I like to see both formats stick around and keep each other in a check in balance. For one it will keep driving the prices down and each generation of players will add more features. It is to bad that all studios couldn't stay neutral and let the consumers decide on which player to buy. If we have 3 systems for games, why not 2 players for movies?
At least it wasn't to expensive in getting into the new technology. I got into both fo...
Who cares just give me some games to play!
A very interesting read. Looks like there are some good things coming down the road.
Studio Canal was never an exclusive backer of HD DVD. They started off selling HD DVDs in Europe and may have plans to release 1 movie in Blu Ray at this time. It has been nice though having them release movies in Europe that are HD DVD (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) which are Blu Ray exclusive here and being able to watch them if you import them.
