So how many of you have done 1080I and 1080P comparisons? On my 55" Sony A2000 I can not tell a difference between 1080i or 1080P movies on my PS3 or HD-A1. The biggest issue I see is feeds from Direct TV when shows or sports run in 1080i. I get some macroblocking there from the action, but that is more of a bandwidth limitation then anything else. All my action movies on HD DVD look just fine with it outputting on 1080I.
I personally do not buy into the whole 1080I o...
I'm sure there will be lots of people that disagree with that article. I totally agree with this resolution part though. The Audio is pretty close to being true. The audio part should be true, but movies that have both a TrueHD track and PCM track the PCM track has sounded better. Supposedly TrueHD may have some pre-process going on with it with that tones it down when in fact it should be a bit for bit copy of the PCM track. Something for the studios and or Dolby to work on more.

A good example of PIP is the 300 on HD DVD. They showed how the scene looked like while it was filmed in the smaller window while the large window had the movie playing. It was pretty awesome seeing the blue background and the 15-20 guys on the set, then seeing a few hundred on the main screen. I imagine once "Bonus View" gets going WB may rerelease the 300 on BR with the PIP commentary like the HD DVD version.
Star Wars will never see the light of day on either format until there are a ton more people with the technology. Look how long it took to get Lucas to release Star Wars on DVD.
If you were to watch a movie on 1080i or 1080p on a HD DVD player you couldn't tell the difference. Now if you watch a movie that is 1080i from a Dish then you can see some problems with macroblocking. Those systems just do not have the bandwidth to stream 1080i like they should while HD DVD and Blu Ray players have plenty of room to do so. I've done A and B comparisons of movies on my Sony 55" SXRD(A2000) between 1080i(HD DVD) and my PS3 (Blu Ray) and neither I nor my friends could t...
Last system I built was custom back before Half Life 2 came out on the PC. If you watch the daily sales on newegg.com or zipzoomfly you can save yourself even more money. The only thing bad about it is seeing all the new video cards come out every 6 months. Plus the switch from AGP to PCI-e. Crysis has me wanting to do a new upgrade!
Makes me glad I am console agnostic. This game is looking better and better. Co-Op would have been fun, but I always love a good single player game. hopefully they do a demo for this game soon.
To 45.2 have you heard the Dolby Digital Plus soundtrack on Transformers yet? It sounds fantastic. Sure it would have been nice with a TrueHD soundtrack, but Dolby Digital plus at 1.5Mbps sounds very very good.
Nice receiver you got there with the Onkyo 875. I was thinking about getting that one, but decided to go with the Denon 3808CI instead. I like the fact that receiver has networking capabilities. I'm still using my Denon AVR 1803 with the Analog outs on my HD-A1 to g...
It's to bad Paramount didn't just make this a Combo disk and make the MSRP for it $19.99. There would be a potential market of 8 million people out there with an HD DVD that would have led to some of them buying a A3 for $299 or the A2 for $229 (Amazon prices). Shrek 3 is also due out could bring more people into buying a HD DVD player.
It's nice to see player prices falling on both sides, but it would be better yet if we could see the movie prices fall too. Although the Buy...
You would be surprised at how many people on the AVSforum boards import HD DVD's from across the Pond. Check this thread out:

I picked up Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on HD DVD from Xploitedcinema shortly after it came out over there. Damn good looking picture and sound out on that movie. Xploitedcinema also has Green Street Hooligans on HD DVD(Im...
What is so hard to understand? The directors cut of Troy being a 3 hour and 20 minute movie has a TrueHD soundtrack. Why could not Paramount do the same thing? Yes I understand that they choose to to go with HD extras which probably took enough space to bump down the Audio to Dolby Digital Plus at 1.5Mbps which is damn good audio mix.
So what I defended HD DVD. I own both formats and I think both should stick around. I have no problems with either one. The only problem ...
What I find interesting is that Troy the Director's cut is 198 minutes long and still has a Dolby TrueHD track in it. It will be interesting to see if Paramount does a double dip on this title and releases a version with the Dolby TrueHD track and puts the special features on a second disc, or not include them at all.
Never mind the reviewer still gave it a 5/5 for audio. Plus all the other reviews I have read for this movie have giving the audio and PQ very high ratings. Ne...
What I find funny is a 4-5 year life span for a console is more then long enough. High end graphics card for PC's cost the same as a console or higher and those get released every year and people still buy them year to year to upgrade. I think with consoles you still get a deal IF (and that is a huge IF) they were going to release them every 4 years.
I think the article was an interesting read and nothing more. My guess is though is in 2009 MS may announce they are working...
I buy from Amazon.com Free shipping and it is about $5 or so less then Best Buy. Plus I did a promotion where I buy 3 at a time and get 10% for all HD movies for a year. Picking up Blu Ray and HD DVD for $17 a movie is hard to pass up. I refuse to buy any Fox titles from Best buy since they are around $35 and HD DVD Combo discs are $39.
It seems the HD movement is also being hurt by expensive movie titles! Start putting new releases down to $15 or so and you will see movie...
I just wished they would throw in an HD DVD drive into the Elite. I know they would not use it for games, but I'd rather have one built in to my 360 and use that as a back up to my HD-A1. I know a few people holding out on getting a Add-on because they expect a 360 package to come out with the HD DVD drive built in.
I'll be curious how the BDP-U5000 will play with both formats. It is suppose to include HDi on the HD DVD side which is nice. This will be the true universal player in that regard since the LG universal only plays movies and not the interactive features. I was a bit surprised that they canceled the BDP-2400 for the year. Makes me wonder if they will come out with a HD DVD player at some point.
Thats one of the reasons I stayed away from Plasma TV's when I bought my HDTV. They do give a good picture, but can suffer burn in from games. I feel for ya. Then again gaming on something smaller then my 55" just plain sucks now too.
After reading this I have to wonder how wordy the papers are going to be for the Silicon Knights/Unreal fiasco? A very interesting read though. From what I read it sounded like Activision was way out of line.
Please tell me how there is a huge difference between 1080I and 1080P? I have checked both with both formats (blu ray 1080P and my HD-A1
with 1080I and there is no difference on my 55 inch set. I am willing to go as far as to say there may be a difference if your screen size is 70" or bigger and I mean in the 100 inch screen size. A good link to some this up:

Toshiba has packed the data better onto each layer which has allowed them to change it from 15 gigs a layer to 17 gigs a layer. That is how they are getting 51 Gigs for a Triple Layer. Also the original NEC Drive was spec'd for a 45Gig Triple Layer so there is a good possibility that the current player will be able to play the triple layer discs.
Time will tell to see what plays out.
