I'm not sure how much of this we can believe, though. He took a 50 % pay cut in 2011, too. That was obviously only a very temporary measure because he'd be on minimum wage after this one.
Lot of Nintendo Shilling in here. To be expected for N4G.
I used to have happy memories of EA, but I surgically scoured out that part of my brain.
It's too painful to see what they have become.
When he MUST have the resources and contacts already at his disposal to make it, but uses a website designed to help indie projects get funding when no other means are available? Not evil, but a little mercenary.
Bottom line: They could have made the game themselves, on their dime, but chose to do it on ours instead.
Is it not a little selfish that Kickstarter is being used for such high-profile 'projects'? It seems unlikely that Inafune would HAVE to crowd-source, so is it just a cynical way to cut down on production costs?
Didn't make the cut, unfortunately. Neither did the Stubbs the Zombie "brains", speech, which is probably the most inspirational in all video gaming history.
Nice try, Respawn.
Any offense that is taken by someone's unfortunately tactless comment pales in comparison that he felt like he HAD to even post up a comment whining at people to play the damn game.
Not sure what company you're talking about. Sony? Nintendo? It's not coming to the Ouya either. Who gives a shit?
The fact that you'll post links to Respawn's site only shows that you're shilling harder than pre-d...
Honestly, I don't think there is anyone here who will not play the game (if they were going to) based on this. There are maybe a small percentage of people who will throw up their hands and scream "game dropped", but they would have done so if they didn't like the box art.
It is not, however, unfair to get annoyed at angry devs ranting about how great the game is, and "calling people out" because they don't like an aspect of it. It's not ...
Well, you have to be tactful when you've got a game coming out, and fans have a semi-valid problem with it, and he wasn't all that tactful, was he? There's something a little silly about crying over complaints and calling people out, then expecting them to see you as reasonable, and give you money for the game you made.
There was a lot of passive-aggressive vitriol in his post, and it kind of made him come off like a little bitch.
There is no "hate" here. Nobody is threatening to dox him, or to beat him with iron bars, or anything.
It's a light-hearted ribbing of a dev who had the lack of foresight to write an angry, rather silly response to fans, and it happens all the time.
It's hardly the most well-considered of responses to players, though. Hard not to make fun sometimes, especially when he quite plainly states that playing the game "literally" nearly made his heart give out.
As a writer, it's your job to make the point clear and easy for the reader to interpret, then back that up with credible evidence or opinion. You can't just fall back on crying about how people missed the point when you're responsible for making that point.
"Thank you, citizen. Now make sure to check in online whenever we feel like it so that we can verify that your forgiveness is genuine."
The word parody in the description not quite enough for you, eh?
We will try not to do it again. And by "it", we mean "get caught".
If you were all that smart, you wouldn't have told everyone in this thread that all your passwords are anagrams of each other.
It's the curse of the PR guy. People aren't hearing him at all. They're hearing what they want him to say. As far as anyone should be concerned, he basically said "they had a nice launch, good for them" and added "but also Nintendo!" because he works for them, after all.
But do so with care, citizen, for the reaches of black villainy are onto thine game of taking an existing word of calling, and adding 1 to the end of it.
They spend a LOT of time down there..
It seems more like a fake gesture than anything. He took a 50% pay cut in 2011. Obviously that was a most temporary measure because he's taking ANOTHER 50% now.
My opinion: A boardroom circus to look good in front of shareholders.
