I think what most people don't realize is that none of this matters to the end consumer. Seriously. Both consoles are going to deliver a next-gen experience. It's not about who can squeeze out a few extra drops of performance over the other, it's going to be about which console delivers a more engaging, revolutionary experience.

Seriously, fanboys can argue back and forth about which processor is more powerful or which console has more RAM, but at the end of the d...

Captain, since you're a registered user on a gaming-focused site, I'll assume you're computer-savvy enough to know that a 1-minute song takes up less space than a 3-minute song. The estimate on the box is based on an average song length. Come on, you're smarter than that, and this is nothing new.

But let's suppose you don't get all that "giga-bit" mumbo-jumbo. Whether you speak English or French, the back of the box has an asterisk next to th...

I'll admit it's a bit shady on Sony's part, but you don't buy ANYTHING without reading the packaging first. I'm sure there's a line somewhere in the ToS for this sort of thing. I feel for the guy, but hopefully this is something he can learn from.

I think the writer is saying that publishers have this disconnect; they don't see it as art, just as a product. The article isn't saying a piece of art that makes money is bad, it's saying that publishers don't care about video games as a medium, just as a product. They only care about price points.

I had the lowest expectations going into this article, but I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Perfect examples how publishers are becoming too money-grubby and are hurting the industry.

At the same time, I feel this is a big reason there's such a prevalence of surprise indie hits coming about, a lot of them re-visiting more "outdated" gaming philosophies.

I think it's time we stirred things up. If enough gamers can vote with their wallets, ...

You're right in your definition of a gamer, but to say hardcore gamers don't exist is just plain wrong. Hop into a game of Halo or CoD (any of them) and you'll see they exist, and what sets them apart. I'm a gamer because I enjoy my games and take them seriously enough to want to get good at them, but that's where I draw the line. The hardcore crowd takes it to a whole different level, demanding perfection from themselves, and dismissing anyone who isn't on their level...

Anyone who mistakes the Wii U as another "casual" console is just plain ignorant. The Wii U can stand up to any other console today and play any multi-plat out there, sometimes even better than on the 360/PS3. Blops 2 is a perfect example. The Miiverse is a huge step forward for online gaming communities, and is actually monitored for trolling, encouraging a friendly gaming environment. But friendly doesn't mean casual, something the hardcore CoD fanboys will have a hard time un...

@imdaboss1: Don't count on it.

Processors have reached a plateau in performance in that we can't make them any faster with the materials we currently make them out of.

Think of it this way: The faster a processor operates at, the more heat it generates. Past a certain point, running the processor any faster will damage the chip.

The only way we can improve processors at this point is to add more cores to them, but this, of course, is ...

Slapshot82, thanks for posting such an informative and well-written article.

However, I'd just like to point out that I think people are comparing the consoles in the wrong way. If each console just tried to be the one with the best graphics, the market would become incredibly stagnant, and choosing a console would be a much more moot point.

Instead, the differences between consoles give us, the consumer, a wealth of options.

On the one e...

@GamersRulz I don't know what "downfall" you're talking about - the Wii is the best-selling platform of the 3 current-gen systems, and they're still rolling out more. It may not be a console for hardcore gamers, but Nintendo found a niche and exploited it, with great success.

Nintendo was never about raw power with their hardware - it's always about innovation. Even if the Wii U doesn't have the raw processing power the 360 and PS3 have, it deliv...

You're comparing apples to oranges. It's more like if you worked a job where you are paid monthly, and your boss told you "Hey, you've been a hard-working member of this company for 5 years, so here's an extra $1.20 on your paycheck every month."

It's not people finding something to bitch about. MS's original rewards program is excellent and I think it's a nice step forward. Adding on an extra $1.20 tops off of a $60 game purchase is just...

He's right though. The discount you need 25k GamerScore to get translates to almost nothing. Maths to back it up:

Avatar Prop: 80 MS Points, 78.4 with 2% discount.

Avatar costume: 320 MS Points / 313.8 after discount.

Geometry Wars Evolved: 400 MS Points / 392 points after discount.

Borderlands 2 Season Pass: 2400 MS Points / 2352 points after discount.

Assuming the lowest amount of MS Points you can buy ...

This is my last bubble so I'm going to try to do an umbrella explanation. Hopefully I address everything in this comment; if not, anything goes after this.

For anyone who didn't bother reading my article: I'm referring to the *new* MyAchievements system. The original rewards system MS started is great, I love it, and I think it's a nice gesture to their customers. I'm not saying anything against that, so *please* stop bringing that up as a retort, it's...

Tres took the words right out of my mouth. I'm sorry, but as far as rewards programs go, Sony has Microsoft beat. Sure, it's $5 a month, but you get such a return on that it's not even close. Free games every month, tons of discounts and free avatars and themes all the time. if you buy just one discounted game after signing up your first month, it's already paid for itself.

If you still say MyAchievements beats PS Plus, you clearly just haven't seen it fro...

@Chunky: My article refers to the new MyAchievements program specifically. I'm glad the original rewards program was started, because I feel that's a legitimate benefit to Microsoft's customers. But come on. 2% discounts and a gift worth 20 cents on your birthday? I mean why even bother? You can be neutral about that at best. That's like if you boss told you, "You've worked here for 5 years, so I'm going to add an extra $1.20 to your paychecks every month." I...

Thanks for your interest Pekolie. Let me elaborate a bit on what I meant by that: I felt the fine print was a bit ambiguous. To me it sounded like it wouldn't start counting your GamerScore until you signed up for the rewards program, after which it would start tracking any GamerScore you earn from there on. It wasn't until I checked the heading at the top of the page before I realized it would count it retroactively. Confusing fine print, what else is new?

@Bishop-Br: Yeah, it's definitely not a living room TV. As most have said, it's great for a small bedroom / PC monitor setup. It's just barely larger than my PC monitor, at 22".

4969d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I agree with you, but at the same time you could see this as a PS3 accessory, not just a TV. People wouldn't get much use out of Motorstorm Apocalypse if they didn't have a PS3, and I'm not sure how the 3D glasses, or the TV, work in absence of a PS3. Also, SimulView would be wasted on someone who doesn't own a PS3. Plus, the TV doesn't come with a remote. It's definitely a more niche item. Without a PS3, this is just a cheaper, smaller 3D TV.
