I think it all comes down to lighting and camera-work at the end. I mean just look at Uncharted 2, asides from the character models everything is bright as hell and more vivid ergo it cant look bad...

Oh right, and climbing on ledges and falling to your death frustralingly because of glaring camera angle issues is just so much more epic.
God of war 3 has pushed the technical boundaries of the playstation 3 my friend,
