No sh... captain obvious /sarcasm.
Great piece by Timothy Lotte, I enjoyed reading the in-depth information he gave on PC GPU as well as next-gen consoles.
Draw calls is how many objects are being drawn to the screen, just in case someone was wondering.
What's interesting is that the roles have turned when it comes to architecture (MS taking PS3 non unified memory pool (8Gb DDR3 + 32Mb ESRAM), and Sony is taking Xbox 360's unified pool).
The roles are turned around thi...
Her skill set is awesome, amongst other things ;)
Don't know if it will change online gaming per say.
But if Sony is smart they'll have a watermark on every uploaded video.
Which could get them a lot of potential buyers (free publicity so to speak).
7Gb to 7.5Gb sounds about right, especially since the OS will be based of BSD (which in turn is based off Unix).
That's probably the main reason for them choosing BSD as it's a mature OS with a very low memory footprint.
Considering the PS3 OS uses approximately 53mb (in it's current state), 512mb - 1Gb reserved for the PS4's OS seems more than enough.
The website could have just said which developer they spoke with.
Would have...
"We also managed to ask him about his thoughts on next generation consoles and whether PlayStation 4′s 8GB DDR5 RAM will help future racing games or not."
After I made the first comment the submitter changed it, though originally he also wrote DDR5.
And that does not look like a typo to me, the mistake is in the original article.
It's not the first time I see "journalists" believe that GDDR5 and DDR5 are the same.
Interesting title...
They are changing focus that much is or should be clear by now.
How it pans out for them and their user base only time will tell.
"PlayStation 4′s 8GB DDR5 RAM".... /facepalm.
DDR5 = not GDDR5...come on at least know what you're talking/writing about.
Somehow the English voice over sounds "off" by a large margin to me.
I mean the voices used doesn't seem to match the character.
Several large PC manufacturers (Dell, HP, etc etc) have voiced themselves that the PC market has shrunken....which was brought up at investor meetings.
I don't know who targeted who, in the end I think it was a wise decision for the console makers to go with AMD.
Price/performance ratio of their GPU's is great, especially their 7000 series.

On-topic: reading the article/pdf I feel for those guys.
It's great that both companies are stretching out in order to reach more developers.
A second trailer has bee released according to CVG, don't know if anyone posted it or if it's a re-cap of what was shown on IGN.

While ease of development and cost effective, UE is far from a great engine.
I hope it's shortcomings drive developers to create their own in-house engines and/or use better alternatives.
The shiny, plastic, bad textures that this engine is famous for needs to go.
Quote from UDK forum:
"Fully dynamic lighting and precomputed lighting are just two tools in our UE4 toolbox. We have games being made like Fortnite that are using ...
It's going to be an interesting generation for gamers.
Doesn't matter which or what your favorite platform is.
I do hope it's a more varied generation though, trying out different type of games/genre and all the new/different experience they bring is something I personally look forward to.
Everyone is waiting for E3!
Just a friendly reminder, CNet is pro Microsoft.
So take whatever they say with a grain of salt (just like other pro Nintendo/Sony sites).
You guys do realize that Rare is owned by Microsoft, right?
Meaning it would be exclusive to the Xbox 360/720 if it happens.
Even I would have prefer to play it on a DS4 controller, but facts are facts.
What this means is that Microsoft's next console will be more of a media hub than a dedicated gaming machine.
It was rumored a while ago by several sites, this adds more credence to what was rumored already.
Just want to point something out regarding the article.
The author seems to think DDR5 = GDDR5, which it isn't.
The PS4 uses 8GB of GDDR5, which is found on most modern graphics cards.
Wanted to clear that up so people aren't confused.
He goes where the wind blows, a wind named Konami.
Don't read much into it, in the end he's an employee of said company.
Whatever they want they'll make happen, going multi-platform isn't a bad thing anyway.
As long as developers keep putting enough love and effort into their games they'll flourish on whichever system.
