No, they don't need cross-play asap. Developers should not waste money and time on this. Instead, spend that on the game to make it better and less buggy.

I don't think this is such a bad idea. Most people are cheap when it comes to gaming. They are ok spending $1000 every year on a new phone but God forbid a brand new console cost more than $399. These cheap people hold gaming back. I'm more than willing to spend even $1000 on a new console every 6-7 years IF there is enough power in it to warrant that price. And the casual cheap people can get a downgraded version for their $399.99.
