1) Give it a dark, gothic, mysterious setting where it seems something will pop out at you from any shadow (like first game)
2) Don't make Dante an overly flamboyant sexual enuendo spouting douche bag or incredibly cocky prick. If feel you need to go in one of those directions then at least make Dante more subtle like he was in the first game.
3) Don't make us back track through 95% of the levels.
