Dude, I have no idea, I found that on Youtube. I get a sense of fanboys trying to bury this with reports? Why can't we just have a convo about this? Oh well.

A very good look at the current situation with the PS3 and the ridiculousness of proclamations that the system will "die" or is on the brink of dying. Plus, even if Sony did cut back staff and so forth, is that really surprising? It'd be shocking to see any company not cut back resources in today's economy.

@hitthegspot: Actually there are LBP commercials and I've seen them often. The only thing is they aren't very good. If I didn't know what LBP was, I would would stil...

Actually, as a working games journalist (publisher of Gamer 2.0 and freelancer for GameSpot), I have met the NYTimes Seth Scheissel before, albeit briefly. While I think GTA IV is a phoned in Game of the Year pick, it also just serves their audience. In reality, Seth actually knows his s**t when it comes to games. But he writes for a mainstream paper, so I guess he can't be too obscure.

This was the big worry I had about Home. There just seemed to be many things that didn't need Home's virtual world interface. I don't think lackluster impressions of Home is an indictment of Home, but rather of the whole virtual world idea. There are just a LOT of people that it won't resonate with. It doesn't really resonate with me, personally, as I don't find it all that much more immersive if I enter a world, walk up to someone, and start playing a bowling game with them as it would if I ...

I definitely like the idea of Xbox Live Silver Plus. I was telling a cousin of mine about Netflix on the Xbox 360. He games, but doesn't really have any interest in playing online. He was annoyed when he found out he had to pay for the Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to get that Netflix access since he really won't take advantage of the other Gold services.

So I think a Silver Plus that gives your Netflix access could work, but $29.99 may be too steep. $19.99 would be better...

"Accessible game mechanics enable anyone to grow the longest fingernails ever seen"

How is that even possible. How do you simulate that in a game without making it as long and boring as the actual process of growing your nails a few meters long.

I do remember that iSupply article, but that was just an estimate by a third party. Odds are the prices of the components have come down enough but there's no way to be certain.

I'm not entirely sure of the profitability of the 360 hardware. I know, as Forbes said, they may be breaking even but we're not certain if they are making profit on the hardware. It may depend on which SKU you get.

My cousin told me the exact same thing on the way to our uncle's house for Thanksgiving. He said he pulled the Wii out of the closet in order to bring it and had to literally blow dust off of the top.

It certainly isn't a hardcore console, but it's still selling.

@DarkSeider

Gaming is the fastest growing entertainment medium in the world. Movie studios are trying to swallow up publishers as a way of driving down the overall risk of game investments.

It's common business practice for these huge conglomerates to swallow up companies across different entertainment industries in order to offset losses from other arms of the business. The movie business might be hurting for Disney, but if Disney owned EA, for example, and EA is ki...

Hi, I wrote the article.

I think we actually agree on many points. I do see your point about the three warring ideas within GTA IV of being serious while trying to remain satirical. In the article I state:

"I don’t know what game Jaffe played, but Grand Theft Auto IV is far from “artistic.” More cinematic? Yes. More serious than previous entries in the series? Definitely. In fairness, that’s probably what Jaffe meant, but it’s also a discomforting and odd statem...

Hmm, that announcement slipped by me. I'm happy with the choice of Gearbox to develop the game. That has me excited. I think Gearbox is an underrated developer. The Brothers in Arms series is great.

Even though GTA 4 recreated the bank scene, I think HEAT would be a great game.

The post has been edited to include it as well.

There will always be people that cheat, but what sick pleasure could they possibly get out of winning rigged games? It makes no sense whatsoever. "Yeah, let's just ruin a perfectly fun game by having me win all the time without trying!"

Is it ok for me to say 'douchebags'?

I very much agree with your comment about Square's lack of focus. I was just IMing the author of this article when I pitched the idea to him and we agreed that Square isn't putting out the quality they once were. In fact, while I love the world of Ivalice (I've replayed FF Tactics on the PS about 3 times), I never played through FFXII. That's pretty big since a lot of people consider me an "FF whore."

I think they are trying hard to push a Western initiative while they ...

It's not surprising. North America is becoming increasingly important, but at the same time western design themes are kind of making a pretty big impact in even traditionally Eastern developers. Square very much showed its interest with the changed battle system in FFXII and by even developing FFXI.

We discussed a lot of this here: "The Rise of Western Game Design" http://www.gamer20.com/feat...
