Believe it or not, I have three mediacenter pcs. One has freesat hd decoder but you know the main problems with your current set up are:
You have to leave your computer on all the time - the ps3 wakes itself up to record. Your pc will use about 300 watts which is a heck of a lot of energy to leave on 24/7 on the off chance you want to record something.
You have to have tv aerial wiring to your computer.

buy it and try it.. don't like it return it... the packaging can be opened and closed easily..

you do know that sony hasn't discontinued the psp 3000?? you have choice to buy a psp which supports umd and a psp that doesn't support umd.
you do know that alot of ps3 psn games and dlc actually allow gamesharing. some games you can share out to 5 users. as far as i am aware sony is the only company that lets you do this.
it's been available for 199 pounds at many major retailers for quite a while - not just recently... however at 199 pspgo is still way too expensive.

xbox live might be worth the money for some people but to say that psn, a free service is not worth the money, is beyond dumb.

Does you computer wake itself up to record a program? No it doesn't. Does it turn itself on and then off once it has finished recording? No it doesn't.
And I guarantee to you that you pc will use at least 200watts if it is a proper mediacenter that can handle hidef graphics. Leaving it on all day is like keeping a 2kw kettle on for two hours everyday.
