MS isn't trying to play catch up in the VR market if they aren't even in that market. Can you read? MS states that they said it isn't worth pursing because VR is niche. With all the VR devices on the market, it still hasn't broken in mainstream gaming. If VR gaming as so great, you'd think you'd see VR being in the gaming headlines constantly.
Let's be real, people are using it for "other endeavors" more than gaming. No one says, "yeah, I cant wait to have a gaming sessions on my meta quest". VR is still niche.
