What I really found shocking was that Will Wright never finished school. Not only that, but he transferred an ass-load. I have to admit though, I hear a lot of stories of extremely successful college dropouts. How many M.I.T. dropouts go on to become insane engineers? Hell, my dad is a college dropout and makes like twice as much as my mom who has a Master's degree from Columbia.
I personally see this as a fabulous trend we're seeing today. As I grew older, and more discerning, I began to realize that Japanese game designers aren't innovating the way that western game designers are. Perhaps we're just better marketers than those in the East, but designers here are constantly trying to think about ways to one-up games from the past, instead of simply changing the story. I see this as a good thing.
I played Dead Space, and I must say it's definitely enjoyable. This is a good read, and apropos for the game's release tomorrow. I don't own it or anything just yet, but I admit, it's probably worth your time if you're interested in the game. It definitely gave me a bit of the chills. Not more than Quarantine though...that movie is crazy!
Well, the story isn't the only thing that's wrong. There are small things here and there, like the voice acting and character development. I don't know. The game isn't bad, like I said. It's just shallow once you look beyond the terrain deformation. That may not matter to some people. Like, it may not matter to you. And that's completely fine. You're entitled to that, but I just think that in this day and age, a lot of shooters are only skin deep...
I just want to say that the game isn't bad. Most people will probably look at the 7.4 and think it's a subpar game. That's not the case. I really thought they did an amazing job with the terrain deformation. But I was just severely let down by the lack of follow through with the story line. I actually spoke with the guys at Day 1 Studios at Lucas Arts' San Francisco headquarters last week, and told them about how I was intrigued by the story, which they appreciated. But I didn't anticipate it...
What an awesome article. Oh my god, I would love to play Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower. That would be crazy! I'm going to go listen to the Experience album now. Hahaha.
Don't get me wrong, I think Grand Theft Auto is an amazing franchise. I love the series, but I personally believe the series to be more of a parody of society than anything else. Although I have to agree with you on Fallout. Fallout has always had inklings of criticisms of war, I think. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
What I found the most interesting is that Suzanne was quick to admit that unfortunately a lot of the games that are striving to bring these issues to the forefront simply aren't as good and intuitive as the more mainstream games. But she pointed out that taking issues and simply dropping them into pre-existing modes of play are not sufficient means of bringing about the kind of social commentary she hope to achieve. I found that very interesting and I wholeheartedly agree. I played Darfur is ...
This was actually a really good article. I have to say, there has been a huge surge in video game marketing. I mean, it's coming mostly from EA, who happens to publish Boom Blox, but it's good that it's happening nonetheless. Eventually games will be marketed as heavily as movies are, and that'll be great.
I just hope that the commercials get better. Most game commercials are really bad. I work in advertising, and I must say, they must be getting really mediocre agencies to do th...
I got to play it at an EA event, and I admit. After I played it, and then later at an office party, I admitted I had a lot of fun. I don't really listen to rock music, but it makes me want to own the game regardless.
I'm actually really intrigued by this game's story line. I have always thought that gaming lacks the social commentary that it could have and that music and movies provide. I love that it focuses on the issue of oil dependency.
N+ is one of the best XBLA games available, and to have it on the go is pretty impressive. Now if they would only port it to the iPhone somehow...
Another Need for Speed? Is this series ever going to get tired? I mean, they're continually adding stuff and taking away, so it never becomes too cumbersome, but damn. Nice preview nonetheless though. I don't think there was any information at all on the game before this.
I personally don't think we'll see phenomenal games to movie transitions for several more years. It took comic book to movies a little while to reach the critical point that they're at now, with a few hits along the way (the first Batman and Superman). But it took a while to get to where the Dark Knight, Sin City, and hopefully Watchmen, got to. Videogame based films is still a relatively new concept. Although the first Mortal Kombat wasn't terrible...
Madden isn't really a "hardcore" game. It's intricate yes, but it has mainstream appeal. It's PUBLISHED for the masses; it's ENGINEERED for the seasoned player. Because it's the only official NFL game, it's going to attract gamers and non-gamers because it has the NFL stamp on it. And generally speaking, most of Madden's install-base are people who aren't really hardcore gamers in the conventional sense. They're hardcore Madden players, in that Madden's like one of the only three ga...
I'm excited to see what Atari can do in the future. It would be an amazing Cinderella story if they can come back out of the shadows.
I have ALWAYS said that parents need to be more involved. Don't get me wrong, I was playing GTA when I was 14, but I turned out fine. It really comes down to parents actively involving themselves in what their children are playing, instead of just buying them games without research. Blame yourselves! Seriously. I'm not sitting here saying that we should be able to do whatever we want, but just like with anything else in life, assume some damn responsibility. Researching about a game before yo...
Woah! Let's bring that back a few notches there. I've heard that theory before, but I can't help but feel that most of the people who say that either have enough money that they don't care about gas prices, or are simply selfish, and don't want more taxes imposed on them despite what the money is going to. I'm not saying that's who you are, but I know my old professor was saying the same thing and he matched those criteria. He was a cool guy, but he annoyed the hell out of me with stuff like ...
Although I can't help but feel that this article is an example of poor journalism, I also can't help but laugh. lol. I have to admit, some of these game names are hilarious. And I admit, I always thought Lips was one of those games with a suggestive name. lol.
I thought it came out really well. I've gotta say, though, between the general election race and these circus clowns, there has been a lot of quote-worthy things that have made it into the headlines.
