There's a lot less risk with a publisher involved, as they will want a return on their investments and will often advertise far more efffectively than a small developer could manage alone.

If it's not a sequel why is it here? I can think of loads of games that could've occupied that 5th space.
Bad voice acting isn't a cliche, it is the sad yet inevitable truth that developers often are either trying to be "so bad it's good" or figure the player really doesn't care and will just skip all the cutscenes anyway.
Many cases of turn based combat are bad because you can just mash attack endlessly, but try that in the Shin Megami Tensei games and it's a one way ticket to the grave. If you like strategy in your RPGs I can't recommend that series enough.
I can't see it happening, it would cost more than the moon and I get the feeling all three comapnies want to succeed on their own strengths.
