LOL, typical jrpg fanboy. Yeah, those darn modern JRPGs are filled with amazing ideas and imagination. None of those typical rehashed tropes and designs, nope. Can't be that most of them are aimed at Japanese teenagers and as such many of their stories don't rise above more than save world, get girl(but not really!), and oh right, 8th grade level philosophy.
FFXIII according to its developers had more in common with an FPS than an RPG, so yeah, I'll go ahead and a...
Ah Bioware, you guys complete me. You've replaced the dead and buried Squaresoft in my heart.
Oh the NERDRAGE this is causing.
What's this? A bishonen looking protagonist in a game made by SE selling well to Japanese teens?
Surprised.
You know what the hell happened? I grew up. Lame semi-philosophical BS storylines got old after I hit 15 when X came out. XII started out strong but they canned the Director and rushed the crap out of it. Square's attempts to make "deep" storylines in recent games always comes out amateurish, especially with XIII thanks to it's godawful script. Here's a novel idea SE, hire a talented scriptwriter cause whoever is writing for you now seems to be stuck on anime cliche mode.

I had the same problem as the article writer. I just felt NOTHING for this game. The characters, the world, the story or even the gameplay after a time since it got extremely tedious.
I agree with most of your points but you're incredibly naive on this point. Having lived in Japan, that place is so unresponsive to anything close to sexual abuse it's not even funny. Easier to blame the victim and ignore it. But gotta save faces amirite.
As for American media, if you're talking about news, yes it is like this all the time. Especially local news channels.
LOL, even if Activision rushed MW2, W&Z and friends still made that broken POS. Forgive me if I don't the same 'mouth tired of bobbing up & down' confidence some of you do just because they're not with Activision.
I really find the cheerleading for West and Zampella lame as hell.
"We don't have all the facts but that's not gonna stop us from Rah rah rah-ing!"
Because the Bible is a bastion of good manners, rules, and morals. Well, if all you read are that Hippy Jesus parts. Old Testament? Stoning? Slavery? What's that?
I own both games and ROF is spending more time in my PS3. I was on Chapter 10 of FFXIII and I got burned out playing it. I'll probably come back to it down the road (during summer probably) but I'm really enjoying ROF.
I'm on Chapter 5 and the characters have been fairly entertaining and likable, the battle system has a fairly steep learning curve, and the only thing it doesn't have that FFXIII does is the huge production values. I would easily recommend ROF/EOE to any JRPG g...
Wow, I'm impressed. His snarkiness overpowered his actual point.
Oh, look at that. Fanboys. "OH NOES! He thinks the intro went a bit too long! HATERGATE!"
I know SE doesn't own it but goddamit Suikoden 2 needs to be on PSN already.
As for IX, great Final Fantasy and great send off to the Playstation era before...well, let's just say I'm not a big fan of recent Final Fantasies.
LOL this is hilarious. Because it's at the bottom of their "Play-to" list, it's putting FFXIII down? Whoa there fanboys, take some reading comprehension classes first!
[OUT] of Nintendo. You know, first party? Or maybe you glossed over the part "attract core gamers", cause Endless Ocean sure the hell isn't one of them. If you had said Red Steel, sure, but that's being done by Ubisoft. Read before clicking that Add Reply button.
Why doesn't SE just goddamn make n Third Person shooter Action Adventure game already. God, that's all I'm getting from them whenever they talk about Final Fantasy. They want me to get excited about FF again? Rewind 15 years and tell them to get a story and cast of characters as compelling as VI, a world as fun as VII, (keep the XIII battle system, I actually like it from what I've played from my friend's copy), then I'll think about plopping 60 bucks on their next console outing.
Maybe they'll actually announce a brand new IP coming out of Nintendo instead of the same Mario and Zelda that's keeping the Wii afloat for the core gamers.
You're pretty selective on what Square should keep the same. So it's fine that it has cheesy dialogue (which I don't know, they could have improved) or the super cliche overdone JRPG trope characters (coughVanillecough) but taking out other staples of the series is dandy?
1) But they actually made that linearity interesting and enjoyable. Corridors -> Cutscene -> Fight -> Cutscene = don't equal advancement. At least the downtimes and interactions in the towns added to th...
Ha...ha..ha. *wipes tears*
