Yes, they did. They should not have announced it (that it was in development) until they were ready to talk about it. It was announced when it was due to speculation that Nintendo was going to go mobile and leave the console business (their mobile plans had only just been announced). What they should have done was simply state that there would be a successor to the Wii U, but say nothing of it until they actually had something to say.

None of the Wild Arms games were huge sellers, Sony is unlikely to put up the money to make a new one. They seem to be content in funding cinematic AAA games like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
Would love a new Wild Arms for PS4/Vita but it is unlikely. If anything they will just bring the PS2 releases to PS4.

Nintendo reported updated figures a few days ago at the most recent investor briefing. The Wii U is at 12.6 million units sold.
The Wii U is absolutely worth getting. It is without question the best system this gen. Don't get me wrong, I love my PS4, but I'm still awaiting greatness, while there have been PS4 games I have enjoyed. There have, so far, not been any I would consider great. Xbox is basically dead to me until Crackdown 3 launches.
Mine does, I have 67 games for it.
