I don't think they are going to be jumping out of the console business. Their 2008 line up isn't bad you should take another look, in my opinion it is better then sony's.. however I do believe a new console will be launched somewhere around 2010, after all this is MS (they release new operating systems every 2-3 years). I don't think microsoft have ever been invested in HD-DVD. The only reason they had support for it over blueray was to force Sony to drop prices to compete, and to hopefully advance far enough in video streaming/digital downloads for format types to be a non-issue. Sales figures are important. Look at how the sales of blueray players made it the winning format. If one consoles software outsells another consistantly, the developers will focus primarilly on the dominate console (the same way movie studios move over to the winning format) and give ported versions of their game to the secondary which are normally not as high quality.
Having persistant lower sales will greatly impact a console over time, it won't be noticeable the first year...

being a pc gamer for many years, I believe mmorpgs are the way of the future of gaming. Every genre wether it be first person shooter/rpg/strategy will eventually be outdone by an mmorpg, it has already happened on pc, and is soon to happen on consoles. Honestly i am leaning towards gametrailers, eventhough the score is a bit high. I prefer their score break down (story, design, gameplay, presentation) when you divide it up, it makes your review less biased. Gamespys review seems way to low, i mean for the majority of it he praises the games graphical detail, interesting dream scenes telling the story, and composed musical score. His only gripes was that the combat was to difficult, the load times.

Um I really think microsoft are in a much better position to lower prices then the ps3. Considering they have been selling the 360 for a profit since its release 2 years ago. They haven't done any significant price drops. It does not have any really expensive parts in it anymore such as blue ray. Also they charge extra for the xbox live service. Nah, I don't think its dying.. just in a few year Hiatus as pc hardware catches up to console hardware in terms of affordability an graphical output. PC hardware as well as games (namely crysis) have only just began surpassing the console games graphically since the 360 was released in 2005.. Over the course of 1-2 years pc gaming will be at the top of its game.
