I feel your assessment. The destruction & playability in DK is phenomenal. MK has a ton to unluch and some dope tracks. It's something about both that didn't punch in areas where it needed the most.
Donkey Kong is an average game. Mario Kart is now neutered and watered down. I'm hoping Metroid is at least above average.

From the beginning this should have been evident. They spent way more money getting big 3rd party games to "be free" ON HAME PASS!!!
