Still looks like you cannot stream > 4 gig Mp4 files (also tried burning one to a DVD).

For me, this firmware is complete rubbish.

Has anyone tried pushing > 4 gig files to the Ps3? What about mp4? I really hope they scrapped the 4 gig limit for DLNA streaming of MP4s.

I only own a PS3 - but at the moment I'm almost exclusively playing 360 (which I borrowed from work).

Don't know what it is, but I just find the lure of Bioshock far greater than the games I've still yet to play, or complete, that I own on PS3 - including Drakes, R&C and COD4.

The 360 really has got some great games, and I'd buy one in a heart beat if it wasn't for the fact that they are so unreliable and so badly put together.

Playing Bioshock in th...

I'm hoping for > 4 gig file playback for MP4 files. At the moment, you cannot playback > 4 gig files even over DLNA - I can understand the limit being there for local files (as the file systems supported by the PS3 don't support > 4 gig files), but over a network its just insane.

Its the biggest pain thats stopping my PS3 becoming my media solution.

Stopped after reading 747 for counterstrike.

They would give this info bar a rest and just get an Atom / Rss2 reader on the go, then we can actually decide what stuff we want to hear about without being shoved loads of sony crap.

Couldn't give a toss about demos (we can quite easy just download them from the Yank store), but FFS, everyday shooter, blast factor adv. research, asshats.

my profile bit says "Euro PSN is a joke". I reckon everyone else should do the same.

Bizarre have not made a bad game yet, and from the demo they aint about to start - defo a day 1 purchase for me

Are they taking the **** or what, where the hell is everyday shooter, blast factor addon, puzzle fighter etc

SSDHD is defo one of my fav PS3 titles to date - I just wish Sony EU would get their act together and get Everyday Shooter released.

Blast Factor Advanced Research
Everyday Shooter
Castlevania (ps1)
Puzzle Fighter

ETC

all of these have been available for MONTHS on the US store. Honestly, don't they want my money?

They will push the boat out and say that the 360 is down to 25% chance of RRoD, rather than the 33% it is now.

Either that, or free spyware / virii with every MS product.

Is the main reason I got a PS3 over a 360.

Anyhow, true story about my mates 360. Had it 14 months now, hardly uses it (maybe 6-8 hours a week, tops).

Started crashing all the time playing HL2 - rebooted it, started crashing turning the dash, and often during the splash.

Phoned up MS - nope, not covered under the new extended warrenty - thats only for very specific things, such as the RRoD.

So they said they were going to charge him...

Its almost like Valve didn't want more money. To be honest, I'd probably buy it if EA came out and went "yep, rushed out for xmas, made a bit of a shod job, but there will be a patch by end of Jan" or something

6764d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I'm kind of in 2 minds on if I should get this or not. I really really liked HL2, and if they came out and said "yeah, there is performance issues, there will be a patch in feb" or something, I'd defo buy it.

But the other issue, I HATE EA, and now Valve for giving us such a rubbish deal.

I'm kind of disappointed that the 360 has got to the punch first, again. (tho the 360 has been out 2 years now).

At the same time, I'm sort of disappointed its needed. mp4 > avi, h264 > divx, and its a bit poor that things are still being released in an inferior format.

Given the choice, I'd much rather see mkv and ac3 support alongside 264 video over divx support.

The only thing this proves is that shovelware devs produce shovelware games. If you think thats a reflection of the ps3, or its hardware, then you're a retard, plain and simple.

Lets not forget this bold statement from the Drakes review...
"Drake’s Fortune is easily the best-looking console game on the market."

However that doesn't mean its not going to be in the release firmware - there has been other features disabled or completely missing in the past. For example, all blueray playback is missing from the test kit releases.

On the PSP testkit firmwares, you couldn't ever play MP4 files (but photos worked).

So basically, I'd wait until the 2.00 firmware lands. It shouldn't be long - to be honest, this is the first firmware I can remember where the testkit / devkit re...

OK, lets explain...

The PS3 has an internal hardware scaler, which, if they want to output 1080p is almost certainly being used. Unlike the 360 one, its only horizontal scaling, so you need to put an horizontally squashed picture onto it, and get it to scale up.

The resolutions it supports are:-
960x1080, 1280x1080, 1440x1080 and 1600x1080

So lets say for the sake of argument, the developers are using 960x1080 upscaled to 1920x1080, the fro...

OK, the PS3 has a hardware scaler, its horizontal only, so the following res are supported:-
960x1080, 1280x1080, 1440x1080 and 1600x1080.

Each one of them will get scaled to 1920x1080. So if you were rendering at 1280x1080 you would send a horizontally squashed image to the scaler so it looked correct on a 1920x1080 16:9 display.

Now, I'm not as teched up on 360, but I think it has both a horizontal and a vertical scaler for typical resolutions. Any standar...
