Digital purchases although convenient in many ways, are rarely competitive in price on release, do not drop in price over time the same way that physical copies do and finally, they hold no resell value.
Also broadband bandwith can have a major impact on the adoption of digital downloading. Not everyone in the uk has Virgin Superfast Broadband uncapped 100+mbps. It will be a while before broadband speeds and reliability meets the requirements for 4k streaming and 60GB+ game...
I do think PS4 PRO is going to put a lot of these issues to bed. However I don't think it's going to be pretty, the backlash that is.
The PRO is pretty beefy for driving a 1080p VR Headset, it's gonna show and PSVR owners are gonna be hard pressed not to want one.
Clever move by Sony IMO. Stagger the message so people don't shout bloody murder. 6months from now I think the message will be clear, PRO + PSVR is where its at.

From a Developer perspective, as long as Xbox provide scalable SDK's that 'work' that are specifically designed to output two distinct flavours of the same ice cream then the admission to enter for said Devs should not be as astronomical as made out.
