You're right Sony will not be making much if anything on linux. However, I wouldnt compare the PSP with PS3 like this. Unlike the PSP, the PS3 is designed to have a sub-OS, while the main OS cannot be hacked into (chuckle) by average users.
You'll be able to install linux as a sub-OS with 1 click (yellow dog promises this) Right now they have a developers version, soon or later you'll have a user edition. with that, the PS3 will become a personal computer to those who adventure in...
USMC I getcha, its because while you were fightin americas wars, an anime, kazaa, and dvd ripping generation was borne, hence all the formats came about and to play those formats from the ps3 would totally make us happy...
You know you could just get a PC-to-TV box for 60$ and watch your anime on your TV.. but I agree i'll be delighted to play ALL my media from my PS3
