Insomniac actually do have 2 year development cycles.
They work on one game
Then after one year half their team works on another
The first one is finished
Then another one is started
The next one is released
My respect for Infinity Ward increased a little bit because they added in this scene.

This is true, but you gotta remember, this is why games like ARMA, and Operation Flashpoint are popular, because they give a good military simulation sense.
Then again, they aren't as popular with the casuals as games like Call of duty though..

It's because it gives a sense of realism of being in a "realistic" battle. True things like dying within a second would not be fun, but realism can add fun to certain things.

You are correct, however, the First party Developers are Sony's side try to use dedicated servers as much as they can.
