It is all personal taste but PC gaming isnt as expensive as you would like to think.
By the time the new consoles come out a PC upgrade will be a cheaper option if you know how to shop around.
Games are cheaper especially when you wait for steam sales.
IMO PC gaming is short term the more expensive investment but long term its better.
