I was thinking the same thing, there's simply too many technical drawbacks for this title to merit a 10. ANYTHING below a perfect score would be acceptable, but this review is a bit hyperbolic.
What's the cause?
Console launch. Simple as that.
Moving on?...
Digital Foundry would be wise to start using direct feed methods of comparison. As visual fidelity improves, it will be harder to discern any real difference with those small patches of muddy pixelation.
Unless there's a huge difference between any versions, I would only take a graphics comparison seriously if it were direct feed footage captured from both versions blown up on my '46.
Does anyone else see an enormous amount of Saints Row influence in this third installment in particular? I'm happy this game didn't tank because of trivial things such as technical performance, because it just looks like loads of fun.
No, but it could look prettier than it does now. However, I must say, I'm surprised Double Helix found it in themselves to actually craft a solid game. Gives new hope to this developer. Perhaps, they can be a reliable first party dev for Microsoft, because they sorely need them.
Not to mention a guaranteed 60 frames on PS4 :D
I wish they would have shown at least a 5 second snippet of something crazy!
Fun fact: This is actually the first franchise Naughty Dog has carried over to another generation of console. I'm certain The Last Of Us 2 will inevitable follow, whether it be their second game or the third.
Wow, I had initially been eagerly anticipating this game coming in from Amazon, but now, I may just leave it in the seran wrap until these issues are sorted out. Does anybody know if they're even worse than on PC?
I still constantly think about what The Last Of Us 2 will look like on PS4.
I can bet a million dollars the Xbone will have as many problems if not more at launch.
I would have absolutely no problem watching videos like this for GTA V gameplay...
Just scale it to 720p and 30 frames, I don't care, as long as it runs smooth and doesn't slow down too much.
@GodMars
You never know the direction the game may go in. I can't say that it will be dedicated to the flight of dragons, but I'm sure there will be specific on-rails segments in Deep Down in which you can take to the skies. Or maybe even open? Who knows.
Would be spectacular, though! I think if Deep Down isn't one of those 7.5/10 IP's, it has a ton of potential.
Well, it looks to me like this game got the HitMan: Blood Money treatment for a next-gen release. Pretty disappointing, as the premise seems exciting. Admittedly, I'm starting to get franchise fatigue with the AC series. I hope a true AC5 is truly built from the ground-up for next-gen hardware.
I wish people would stop using that SAME EXACT picture of him, it has increasingly annoyed me over the past 5 years.
Assassin's Creed is old news to me. They need to bring something very fresh and interesting to the next generation table.
Has anyone else noticed the rubber/carbon fiber like grips lining the south half of the controller? I'm genuinely excited about the prospect of more comfort and stability during long gaming sessions.
Have no fear - it seems as though lighting plays a large part in this game's development. I would assume that it's integral to the gameplay. I can't see a game this brilliant looking falling short of its very name sake.
