In the same area at a different point of the trailer, you can see a large serpent/fish swim by Sam.
I think those areas are the cities that have been decimated by the Homo-demons, as Sam liberates them and chases down Higgs - that's when Higgs summons the beasts as a semi boss fight.
In one of the earlier trailers We see Higgs shove his gold mask into the black goo and the lion boss appears.

Bit to reply to you directly in regards to Sam military training or lack there of, Ripley (ALIEN/S) wasn't trained either. Or it could be a ploy by Kojima to throw everyone off - I'm just a delivery guy - we'll soon find out.

Just go back to the progression and customisation of BF3 and BF4, forget BF1 and BFV. That has been the worst part of the last 2 entries in a once stellar franchise. And Elites - no place in a game like this.
They showed another 2 boss fights in this trailer alone, did you miss those? Rather than grasping for negatives, concentrate on the positive - glass half full mate. Its healthier to optimistic rather than pessimistic.
Hades has me the most excited - how do we get there? why are we there? what's the point of being there? And it looks fucking AMAZING, the ashen look of everything morphing from solid to ash is truely stunning.

No - it's innovation and thinking outside the box, games more than anything are limited by ones imagination.
That imagination has been stifled/suppressed/suffocated by suits, gaming is too costly for most to take a risk is someone's idea.
In this case we have a perfect storm, an extremely talented dev, a 1st party willing to back said dev and a passionate gaming community - PS4 owners.
