There are a few things we can go over in that excerpt, because it's a great piece. Neil Druckmann doesn't believe that the notion of ludonarrative dissonance is an issue that plagues Uncharted specifically because 1) Indiana Jones and other much-loved characters don't face the same level of criticism in this regard 2) Uncharted isn't meant to be a commentary on the moral impact of killing many soldiers, it's just a light hearted action adven...
@RazzerRedux
The article doesn't suggest at all that Uncharted being a shooter is a problem in and of itself. The point of the article is to shed light on the challenges game developers face when trying to balance story and gameplay elements. They state that Uncharted struggles with ludonarrative dissonance and Bruce (the game director) gives us more insight into that. They even show other shooters (The Last of Us, Spec Ops The Line) which tackle the dissonance in a mor...

Why can't games be something more? I say kudos to them for trying to tackle this difficult problem and pushing the boundaries of video game storytelling.
My skin deep remark was more so geared towards your point about games just being 1s and 0s therefore inconsequential. I don't believe that's true and it's not the full picture. Hope you didn't take it personally since I didn't mean it in an insulting way :).
@RazzerRedux it should if your account's goal is to be liked among the general public :P
Part of artistry is delivering a message or experience which feels real. The emotion and connection you feel with characters is real. It takes effort and skill to pull that off (from a creator's point of view).
Your interpretation is only skin deep. People take their personal experiences, lessons, and other aspects of their lives, and ingrain them into their characters. In that sense, a character is a mosaic or "stitching" of many real things.
@Pancit_Canton
When Uncharted 4 was originally showcased, the game was going through many problems and drastic direction changes. Remember the first Uncharted 4 teaser when Sam was the villain and Amy Hennig was writing the story?
Remember when they claimed 60fps target singleplayer and later went back on that? Things change during development and fans complain about changes/downgrades but still want early footage.
@Pancit_Canton
I saw the GoW documentary a while back, don't remember much from it, I should watch it again though because I know it's great.
Many things change over the course of development, we don't know if they planned a sequel from the start. We don't know how ambitious they're making the sequel. We don't know anything except this video. The devs know when it's best to show off their game, or else we get a situation like ...
So because Santa Monica made a demo in less than a year, which you have not proven the development of (show me proof that wasn't in preproduction for longer), every developer must do so?
By that logic, because Death Stranding came out so quickly, Naughty Dog is lazy for taking so long with TLOU2.
Every game has its own complications, plans, and conditions. I'll take the words of a game developer over a forum poster calling BS.
@Pancit_Canton
Many games spend a year just on preproduction alone, and Ninja Theory is also developing their multiplayer game.
Early concepts are faked most of the time because they're extremely controlled demos made just for show instead of a finished level. This isn't coming from me, it's from interviews with devs and the book Blood Sweat & Pixels.
I'd rather see a mostly finished level than what the devs believ...
Pointless acquisition. Sony has a long list of quality 3rd person action adventure games. Microsoft doesn't, makes more sense for Microsoft to shell out the money.
God of War and TLOU2 look much better than Agnis Philosophy to me. Agnis Philosophy was mostly just over the top particle effects.
How are they supposed to show actual gameplay when the game is very early in development? It'll just look rough and completely different from the final product, there's no point.
@Abriael
Well there goes my hope :(. Thanks for letting me know, lol.
I saw a few articles on it and iirc there was more than one person. I agree it isn't anywhere close to being a reliable rumour, but as I said, I'm still holding out hope.
If it doesn't happen, I'll just get it on my PS4.
Horizon on PS4 is incredibly cheap. Bringing it over to PC would allow them to get extra money (can sell it at a higher price) and entice players to buy a PS5 for Horizon 2.
Time changes many things, I believe it's ignorant to assume we know how something will always be.
Hopefully the leak about horizon coming to PC is real and one of the announcements.
He said nothing about the show has been leaked but I'm still holding out hope lol.
Use NVIDIA Freestyle Sharpening filter with DLSS. It improves the image quality by reducing the blur and has negligible performance impact.
Just pointing out a correction to the description: you can buy it on the rockstar launcher, it's not only available on PC through epic store.
Too late. Do companies really expect positive publicity from scrounging people then, once they made their money, going back on it?
It's just disrespectful and shows they view their customers as suckers.
Definitely not common knowledge, this should be spoiler protected.
