In order to play games it is digitally signed by Sony. This is the same signing key that was broken. Its been shown several times that the PS3 will load a game by simply coping the game image to the HD and signing it with the key.

Unfortunately this problem cannot be fixed by software/firmware. It is on a flashable chip that is not designed to be reflashed in the PS3 architecture. Fixing this issue and replacing the key will effectively prevent you from playing any game made ...

*My thoughts were too long* giggity.

Simply put, if the patch is cleaned up, easy to install, and game backups are made available at a massive scale, Sony has a huge problem on their hands. Very similar to what happened to the Dreamcast.

Piracy will be rampant and online play over PSN will be a disaster for popular online games unless Sony places DRM on the accounts which would require a massive overhaul of the PSN user access and...

So here is the state of the "hack" as I know it. The Geohot patch can be applied to PS3's and you can install and run 3rd party code. This is the primary reason MW2 is getting bombarded with hackers on PSN using aimbots and taking prestige away from people by deranking players. Many people are afraid to go into public match lobbies on PSN for fear that someone will take their prestige away.

1. I have not done it but there are several people posting videos and pu...

Any 360 can play all the Halo games, so that argument doesn't really work in the scenario. It really comes down to what the gamers want like Queasy stated earlier. I have a BC 60GB PS3 and I would still spend $60 for an HD remake of Shadow of the Colossus without hesitation.

After playing through Reach for the first time. Immediately after the end I said "It would be great if 343 remade CE, it would be great with updated graphics, and an easy win for the new studio taking over the Halo reins". I stand by what I said, I would love to play CE with update graphics again. I really don't have problems with remakes as long as their done well. That being said I cannot wait for ICO/Shadow of the Colossus HD for PS3 and I've played through those games ab...

GT5 has better graphics, depending on course and car. Case in point GT5 shadows are god awful in every case on every car. The physics are hit and miss on GT5 it seems great until I see a car roll 100+ times and go a mile in a 50 mph crash. And I don't think there is a person that games that can't admit that some of the car models on GT5 are horribly embarrassing. At least Forza 3 feels consistant instead of a half finished game duct taped to its predecessors.

Great another PS3 fanboy post. Can you PS3 fanboys get off of this (X *yet unreleased game* is going to kill *available game for 360*) It is getting really old. We've heard it before with almost every AAA PS3 title, Heavy Rain, KZ2 and GT5, etc. etc. Yawn, I worry for the day you actually do this with a title that isn't a mediocre unfinished mess.

I really thought GT5 would have sold more. As much as Sony fanboys have been hyping it up for years and ruining decent xbox gaming discussions with "wait until GT5, it'll be the best evar!!!11" GT5 sales over all hasn't even broken the 24 hour sales of Reach, Halo 3, GeoW 1 or 2. To put it into perspective GT5 hasn't sold as much as the Kinect and that is saying something. 2.4m in 4 days for what had been touted as the biggest game for the PS3 given US/EU/JP sales, reall...

After literally years of decent threads on good 360 game reviews being bombarded/ruined by the much more invasive PS3 fanboys/SDF with "wait until GT5 is out, you'll see.. GT5 will be better and sell more in the first day than <insert 360 game>" I am going to sit back and enjoy this, like I have Forza 3 (IGN: 9.4, Gamespot: 9.5, Edge: 9, GT: 9.2) for over a year.

Flame on fanboys.

Anyone can buy a cheap blu-ray player from china, but people are smarter than that. I never said that the PS3 was cheap but the best and most feature rich blu-ray player on the market. This is besides the fact that both Best Buy and Walmart still have ongoing deals with Sony to direct people toward PS3 when buyers ask for a blu-ray player.

I can only speak to the current state of PS3's game sales lagging behind the 360. We'll wait and see what the GT5 numbers will be....

The reason the PS3 is catching up (or in this articles' case "closed the gap") with the 360's 1 year lead, is because it is still sold as the best and most supported blu-ray player on the market.

Anecdotally every single one of my uncles, my grandfather, and my father in law have PS3's and neither of them have purchased a single game. However they are more than happy that it connects to and updates itself over wireless and doesn't require any special...

I am a long time DMC fan. I just pretend that no.2 never existed and its one of the best series out there in my mind. I can understand why people dislike the series because of gameplay being monotonous since the games have a lowered entry/learning bar for new players that allows every battle/situation/boss finished with a few set of moves. However playing DMC on the harder levels and scoring well is close to an artform. Getting good a DMC (beyond jump canceling) and beating it on its hardest ...

I think some experienced it more than others, but KZ2 "Weighty" feel was more due to the lack movement due to restrictive culling and texture redraw. Halo implemented a weighty feel to the controls without a mass of people complaining. The fact is, is that KZ2 had as much as 300ms+ of lag in the controls that doesn't make them "weighty" it makes them lagged.

Tighter *quicker responding* controls, 60fps, and a solid matchmaking system.

My take on the control issue:
KZ2 utilized a new type of rendering process that allowed the PS3 to have real AA applied to the final render pass. KZ2 utilized a FOV render process where the entire world was not shaded/mapped only what the player was looking at ~20% beyond FOV. This allowed for detailed textures and some great lighting, and of course AA. The main drawback with this process i...

Yea, I definitely don't think that PSN is in the stone age. However PSN is inconsistent because there are seemingly no standards for online experience. I am lucky enough to have a 50mb/10mb connection at my home so I rarely experience lag, but what I do experience is PS3 games performing poorly over PSN.

I think SC:C and Warhawk were prime examples of this in the beginning where the games were left unplayable for weeks because of server and patch issues. Or Sony console p...

I see Sony's implementation of PSN as more of an add-on than a service. I am not a fanboy in any respects but XBL has a far better online service than PSN. I own KZ2, RS:V, SC:C, Uncharted 2, and MAG, and the online services for those games ended up being aggravatingly inconsistent, poorly implemented matchmaking, and really no online community to speak of. This is more of the developers fault than Sony, however PS3 not shipping with a mic has definitely hurt online Co-op play for many PS...

I would have gotten it for PS3 if online Co-Op wasn't such a big part of the game.
