not because it is sony, but because it is expensive! HD DVD and BLUE RAY pretty much do the same thing for HD viewing, so why not do it cheaper.
they need to make mario cart on there and make it online, that would be so great! i haven't played it for years and years now, but if it is half as fun as i remember it, it is pretty darn fun.
there are many movies on there in hd, many of them are available in standard definition 480p or in high definition 720p.
but if you are a forward thinker you will see that renting movies at $6 a pop will quickly pay for a $200 HD-DVD player, that is if you rent movies regularly. plus, you will have a ton more viewing options being on something like netflix.
this is not to say movies on xbox live wont be utilized, its just that it is not a deal and there is no reason that it shouldn't be.

oh yeah, if the prices are going to be this high every ones prediction that it will take and eliminate the need for HD-DVD and blue ray, is wrong. because you can rent HD from netflix for a hell of a lot cheaper. They need to be competitive with other businesses if they are going to enter their market.
i will still probably end up renting something off it though. but $6 for a rental. rip off even the $2 for a tv show rental is way out of line. most of those shows you can watch for free online. like robot chicken, i can't believe they charge for stuff like that. you can buy good DVD movies for under $10 now. Netflix you can get 3 movies at a time unlimited per month for $17, and that includes renting HD-DVD.
but there are a hell of a lot of them out there and they only begone to be obsolete. actually a lot of digital hdtv broadcasts is in 1080i, more then in 720p. 1080i is also the lowest HD standard. your statement is all false!
