It's actually something that MS is doing company wide. They don't even show how many copies of Office are sold anymore. It may seem weird to people on the outside but it's really only important to the shareholders. The MS leadership are killing it. Last year they had record profits and are topping the trillion dollar market cap.

It's about the long game. For them them it's like a gateway drug at cheap price. 3 things will happen:
1. You love it and them keep paying at full price
2. Forget to cancel it and then you are paying full price
3. Hate it and cancel it. The promo price is a one time deal. So months or years down the road you want it or try it again. You pay full price.
It's a cloud based game. All the environments are stored and generated in the cloud. It takes satellite images from Bing and then transforms them using AI to 3D renderings.
Definitely amazing tech... they're finally are showing off the power of AI and cloud based gaming.

Walmart didn't point any fingers at video games specifically. They removed ADS for ANYTHING that was depicting violence. So it was movies, games, music, books, hunting, etc.
Not sure they will end support for the One for a long time, if at all.
