Sony did not "skip Gamescom". They will be on the gamecom show floor, and the conference will take place in October in Paris.
Sony has more major conferences to announce games in 2014 and 2015. E3 in June, TGS in Sept, Paris in Oct, and then PSX in D...
They will probably get PS1-3 games running on PS4 eventually. It takes time to code a software emulator like that. PS3 didn't run PS1-2 games in software right away either.

All 3 console OS have their plusses and minuses, and different features, and they are all "getting better and better" as time goes on.
PS4 just had a major firmware update that added suspend/resume and a lot of new features, and PSN is constantly being improved.
PS4 AF will be patched, like other PS4 games with patched AF (Dying Light, DmC). It is a bug not a console hardware issue.
It is console exclusive to PS4, and the FGC will be oriented around playing it on PS4.
