One factor this article neglects to mention: interest rates have risen due to inflation so money doesn’t come as cheap as it used to. This has a 2 fold impact. For one, shareholders have become much more risk averse and only want “sure bets”, meaning vying for shareholder attention and investment as a company has become more difficult. Secondly, borrowing money (something corporations do all the time) is much more expensive now due to higher interest rates, so debt becomes much more dangerous...
