It's not about the violence itself holding back evolution of gaming, it's about the sheer immaturity of the format and how it treats violence. Walking Dead is violent, and the author uses it as an example. I don't think he's saying violence itself is the problem, but considering how games tend to utilize violence in immature, cliche ways then maybe the solution is to start focusing on less violent games?
I can tell you didn't read the article, which leads me to believe you should be the one that fades.
While what you say is true, gaming and other mediums have constantly proved along the years that some of the best stories don't include violence. When this medium reaches its maturity, we'll get a bit less of these violent tales. Now I'm not saying I hate violence in video games. I just bought Dead Space 3 and preordered MG Rising, GOW Ascension and Gears of War Judgment... but just for sheer variety of games, it'd be nice if we could get a couple of actual "AAA" gam...
It's probably aimed at kids. The article mentions that it seems more robust, maybe it's more resistant than the normal one? Plus not having access to the internet is probably actually a selling point for some parents. Heh. It's definitely not a good deal in my opinion, but I do think there might be a market for it.
Hard to disagree with this. I do somewhat like the possibility of this becoming a collector's item, though.
Personally, I think it looks kinda cool with the whole retro thing going on, but I still wouldn't buy it over the original. Especially given the extra features you get.
Wait, I know. Virtual reality glasses. Gotta keep the dream alive, man.
One has to wonder what they'll even do for the generation AFTER the next xbox/ps4... but lets not get ahead of ourselves... lol
Personally I think this would be an amazing feature for me, since I live in an apartment building with no room for surround (and I would just annoy my neighbors). Is it enough for me to buy an Xbox 720 or whatever? Combined with good games, improved graphics and all the usual bells and whistles, YES!
I definitely agree with you there, ZombiU and Rayman Legends are the reason why I bought this system.
I wonder if they'll be able to create a buzz around this thing, I doubt it reaches Wii levels, but it still sounds like a good start for them in terms of sales.
Yeah, I'd love Rayman and Zelda but Rayman was pushed back and we have no idea when Zelda will come out. I think waiting is probably the next option for now.
That'd be another good reason to add to the list. Many gamers weren't satisfied with the Wii's lack of focus on hardcore games, so many may not buy the Wii U.
Couldn't agree more.
Patch makes both versions the exact same, this is a very strange and pointless article. Your image comparison is ridiculous too, it's the exact same image. It's not a comparison. You can tell by looking at the name of it. Same file.
That's true, to a certain point. I certainly see a lot of gamers that comment about this type of things, and the sales numbers speak for themselves, software sales have been dropping for the past few months/years and I'm getting sick of people blaming the economy. Look at the amount of people buying the iPhone 5 when they already have every iteration of the device that came before! Lots of people have the money, but simply crave a bit more innovation or at least evolution in the games...
Exactly! That kind of scenario would feel fresh and the sheer scale of such a thing would really make the experience even better, right now we see a lot of games that give the ILLUSION of an epic battle and a huge scale with great backgrounds and everything, but making those backgrounds accessible and expanding the scale of games like this would totally get me excited as a gamer. It may seem intimidating to have a larger scale for new gamers, but as I mention in the article, older consoles co...
So am I! But in the grand scheme of things, a lot of these games are actually sequels that look a lot like their predecessors, a new console generation, among other things, could help the industry as a whole move forward if you ask me. I think the WOW factor is pretty much gone for most gamers, 7 years into this generation. A lot of people are simply not willing to pay 60 dollars for a brand new game anymore if they feel like they've already played it. Don't get me wrong, I'll get...
Oh god yeahhhhh
I see so many possibilities! It could give a lot of exposure to gaming in general, but also to "hardcore" games as opposed to casual-oriented or phone games. Show the entire world how PS4 works and how its games work (through streaming footage online to people who don't even HAVE PS4s, then pull them in... then show them how to play using remote play abilities! Sony may have a winning formula right there.
