Player engagement is high because they want to see for themselves how awful a game it really is, they want to experience the laughably bad design and bugs for themselves before deleting it.
Player engagement does not mean they're enjoying it, its the same reason why one of the worst shows ever made in "Velma" got such high views, because shows and games THIS bad, have to be seen to be believed and to make videos bashing it.
Some could say that expectations THIS high is the reason why we'll never see Valve even try to make Half Life 3 as no matter what is put out, it simply cannot meet the sky high expectations. Parallels can be made for Starfield for sure, all it has to do without any room for failure is save an entire platform from destruction and obscurity.
Runs great on PS5, a few instances of frame drops but nothing serious. Vast majority of issues are PC only.
Like it or not:
- Leader in an almost non existent space with next to no competition. Competition that MS would prevent in the future.
- The most successful popular turd doesn't make it not a turd. Nobody wants their gaming to revolve around a service.

Exactly, the only reason movie subscription services work is because watching tv show episodes and movies only take up a few hours of your time before you can move on and consume new content.
Turn on a 90min movie or 1hr long tv episode and be done with it, move to the next... VS beginning a 20-30hr video game. So unless people are only playing the first hour or two of a game before moving on, nobody is playing more games than people paying full price.

See this seems like a situation where important lines in the legally binding contract between the Publisher and Dev should have been written in. Clauses like the publisher cannot back out after a certain point. Flawed logic if you're leaving out Forbidden West to only look at the DLC.
The base game also received a big update at the same time the DLC dropped and even the PS4 version graphics rival many current gen titles.
Look at the first reveal we saw of Starfield, it was noticeably far behind PS4 Forbidden West. The game would need a complete overhaul in every aspect to catch up to Horizon and even the first Spiderman!
