It will be the same for the US too.
I'm already paying over $250 for the Vita, add the over priced memory card and $40 games.
That's way more than way I want to spend on a portable.
So I'll pass on the over priced and crappy AT&T 3G.

There is no such thing as free apps.
Free apps are mostly demos, you would need to pay to unlock the full game.
Some free apps makes it so difficult that you're forced to buy in app crap to advanced. Like Blood and Glory..in app cost is as high as $99
Than there's the spam/ads they force on you every 5 minute, you'll have to pay to get rid of the spam/ads.
Only some very old an dated games are truly free

The 3DS is what parents buy for their kids.

The only people who thinks mobile gaming is going to replace handhelds are people who don't play games.
A 99 cent app will never take the place of a real games like Uncharted.
Crappy virtual control will never be as accurate as real controls.
And handheld games will never be littered with spam/commercials.
I think the dumbest thing sony did was not releasing the Vita at the same time as Japan.

I get motion sickness on most FPS. I can't play games like COD or Bioshock for more than 10 minutes. But for some reason I was fine when playing Skyrim.

My son have a DS lite, DSi XL, and 3DS. No the 3DS will not fail, it's just not for serious gamers.
In regards to sales, it's a success because there's plenty of kids, girls, and moms that will buy a 3DS over PSP/Vita.
Other than resident evil and metal gear the 3DS lineup looks like the cartoon network
In regards to serious gaming it's an epic failed.
nintendo is now more of a console for casuals and kids, while the other two are for core gamers.
There's nothing to derail, nintendo is for kids and soccer moms who wants to loose weight.
PS and XBOX is for real gamers who cares about real games, not some cartoon games with predictable AI.
I do hope they announce something, so all these rumors can stop or at very least not be so ridiculous.
