Shooting a barrel does NOOOOOOT work!!!
They tested this on an episode about James Bond. When Daniel Craig shoots the barrel in Casino Royale, it blows up. There is no substance on Earth (nitro glycerine aside) that would blow up like that, without a fire to start it.
Jamie had to literally get out a .50 cal mounted machine gun WITH incendiary rounds to get any results from shooting a barrel. Even then, it was more of a fire than an explosion.

I played every exclusive on every platform this year. To me, the PS3 slaughtered the other two consoles. That's my opinion though. IGN shouldn't be regarded as anything but more gamers who just happen to have a website. Their word is as good as any of ours.
I don't think anyone is giving Sucker Punch enough credit. Mario may have defined gaming in its day...and Nintendo is still giving us top-quality Mario titles...but when something better comes along...it should be acknowledged.
