The article's conclusion is culture affects game development. Big surprise.

I do think it's interesting, though, what kind of cultural games our own personalities lead us toward. I'm Mexican-American and I grew up on JRPGs back in the days of NES and SNES, but eventually I just got tired of the repetitive story lines and the linear gameplay. Don't get me wrong; JRPGs are fine, they just aren't my favorite anymore. Nowadays I lean a lot more toward western games, especially ones f...

The obvious answer to why PS3 has a lightly larger chunk of older age is because the older you get the less you like to change, and Playstation has been around longer. People like to stick with the console of their youth and play new sequels to the exclusives that they grew up with.

I LOVED Doom3. I'm hoping for something that will follow along the same lines, but with some more action for those who hate it b/c it's different from Doom1. But Doom3 is awesome, esp. the graphics engine.

These comments are hilarious. I think the reason Valve doesn't develop for PS3 is because when they don't please all the PS3 fanboys, they write insulting comments about them. And it's hard to please the fanboys.

I find it funny that the minute a company decides not to port to the PS3, the game is automatically a bad game and they are bad developers. Wow. Clearly no one else in the world is allowed to be successful or have fun unless they do it the PS3 way.

Yeah, driving isn't that much harder than the GTA3 games, but walking and shooting is a nightmare sometimes! Niko runs around like an idiot. He moves super slowly, even when being shot at, often even when holding the run button. The cover controls don't work too well, and neither does cover itself. The only game where I think cover really works in the campaign is Gears of War, and that's because the enemy AI is smart enough not only to use cover right, but to move up on you, not just let you ...

Yeah, I agree with one of the commenters on the source, who says these weapons sound like an attempt to put magic into Fallout, and, "Maybe it's old fashioned, but I only want weapons that straight up kill the enemy."

I'm not quite sure Bethesda understands the point of weapons in Fallout... especially with something as stupid as a radioactive hand-held catapult.

I very much prefer riddling people with bullets with the mini-gun in Fallout 1 (and the awesome...

I haven't had any real program with getting sick from GTA, even driving drunk. But I've learned that some games can make me sick, and the biggest cause is the lighting in the room. Playing a bright game in a dark room is a bad idea. So I either turn down the TV brightness or turn on a little light.

But also, for GTA I switched to 720p from 1080i (I have a CRT HDTV) because I figured it would be better on my eyes with all the fast movement, and so that might also be why it hasn't ...

I got that call. I was like, first off, I live in Podunk, USA (for college), and the mall here is tiny and the stores tend to go out of business. I seriously doubt there's going to be need for a 6 hour line.

Second, the mall probably closes at 9--how can they release the game at midnight? Sure, the GameStop stores outside a mall can, but would the mall management seriously leave the doors open hours after closing just for one store?

Third, what festivities can there ...

I'm just confident about Gears. Epic has shown time and again that they know what they're doing. Yeah Halo 3 could have been better, but that's kind of how Bungie does things. But Epic, they won't release anything substandard (the same goes for Rockstar with GTA--after so many sequels, Rockstar does not skimp on quality).

I really doubt that there's that many modded 360s, too. I bet a lot of people are downloading it just because they can (because they are, like all of us, waiting impatiently for the release date). Others are probably downloading it not realizing that they need a modded 360 to use it. In the world of computers, you can always expect plenty of n00bs.

Good point.

I think the worst part is that he makes Christians look bad. In the end his campaign is just blame-shifting away from the people who actually commit crimes. Even if the game had some influence, it did not MAKE anyone commit a crime. In the end, the only one who fully and truly bears blame is the one who chose to commit the crime.

Moreover, he has no right to question the way Zelnick's mother raised him. It is wrong for him to make such assumptions and acc...

This game is definitely too late. I was looking forward to it LAST summer (since I had played the original Enemy Territory and I love the Doom3 engine). Now I've already pre-ordered GTA IV, I'm waiting on UT3, and I've gotta save money for Gears2 and Fallout3. I don't see much of a way to fit ET:QW in there.

Epic has said that a large reason for the delay was to convince MS to allow mods. I wonder if they have been successful or not. You're right, 360 and PC are easy to port back and forth, but the issue is the mods (and adapting it to Xbox Live with mods, if they succeeded in convincing MS).

Part of me likes the idea of mods (to me Oblivion is practically unplayable without mods), but I like the relaxed approach to gaming that a console offers (as opposed to leaning over a mouse and...

Call me a cranky old man (at age 23), but I think I'll stick with the good ol' fashioned 360 controller. I don't see a whole lot of fun in wailing my arms everywhere or for a game to mutate my half-hearted wiggle into an all-out sword swing. I'd rather just push a button and have it done. I love the 360 controller (it's the easiest on my hands of any game controller I've ever used) and I don't have any desire to see potential graphics processing power wasted on motion recognition, video or ot...

What's wrong with so many commenters on N4G? Anyone who says that multiplayer was not a major feature of Gears 1 has obviously never played Gears 1. Seriously, the single player campaign in Gears was not very long, that was one of its weaknesses. But it's so fun to play co-op even with people you don't know, and Versus is just amazing and unique. I admit it's hard to get into; at first I didn't like Versus because it is different from most FPS games and so I wasn't any good. But when you get ...

The first review, in the Official Xbox Magazine, said that there was a little bit of texture pop-up, but it was very minimal. They didn't seem to think it was an issue at all, and did not mention cars appearing out of nowhere.

As long as it's a bit better than GTA3 was about it, I'll be happy.
