This sounds so selfish from the mayor of Boston. If Sony chooses to not attend because they think it is risky than they should be able to without pressure from someone who is just worried about tourism in Boston. One person potentially being affected attending PAX or coming in contact with someone attending pax can be detrimental to Sony if they sent their people there.

What a bunch of nonsense. It has everything to do with not risking the health of their employees. PAX is attended by people from all over the world and Sony would have to fly people there from all over the world to interact with a ton of people for days straight.
What you think they made up an excuse so they don't have to show off a few game demos at PAX? That's all they were going there to do. It's not like they were going there to announce anything.

Developers can already do this and do something similar in a lot of games. This patent wpuld not change anything. It just recommends the best possible option that would make a player successful in progressing in a game if they are stuck and ask for help. It can be anything but If it is a microtransaction that's on the developer. It is supposed to help players so they don't have to leave games to go google search how to beat a level or boss.
How much backlash would satisfy you? There is as much vitriol and hyperbole in this thread as you can read. Pretending like this place isn't filled with an insane amount of Xbox fans is just as untrue.

Being a patent doesn't mean it is even being considered. Sony has engineers that come up with ideas and patent them. They have thousands of patents they never use. Everything gets patented so they don't get used.
There is already nothing stopping developers from recommending microtransactions in their games. They already do this.

A big difference is Microsoft confirmed that already while Sony just submitted a patent, something they do all the time and never use. And a patent you did not actually read the full details of.

No it doesn't. Sony has tons of engineers just to come up with new ideas and concepts and they patent their ideas. It does not mean they ever intend to use them, they are just that, ideas. They have 10s of thousands of patents they don't use.
Since obviously no one read the actual patent and just this clickbait headline. The patent is an AI that will tell players how others beat certain areas or progressed in a game if they get stuck, you can ask the AI for help. The AI will calculate what others did to be successful and what the odds are. It tells you what items people used or what strategy. Not necessarily microtransactions although some games do require them to do well. There are numerous options it considers.
They haven't done anything. It's a patent, they patent things all the time they never use or intend to.
The title is misleading as the patent is an AI that figures out all the possibilites other players used to progress in a game not just lead them to microtransactions. It tell the players the best odds of beating a certain area. If the best option is using microtransaction than that's the games fault not this AI.
All this patent does is tell you what other people did to progress in a game and tells you the odds of using a certain item. It doesn't just tell you to buy a microtransaction if you are stuck. It can tell you all the different ways others used.

It is the first VR dedicated studio they closed and they didnt even announce a game. And they just bought a Insomniac who recently made a VR game.
They working already working in London since they were helping with Blood & Truth. They also weren't a big studio. It's not unheard of for people to move 4 hours away in the same country for a job...
