Idiots. The reason why the stream is in 720p is because of the archiving. Archiving takes a lot of space so they limited the stream to keep the file sizes small.

Ummm...the article says that you'll be able to archive streams and also bring your party to the broadcast. Bringing your party to the broadcast is something totally new for Twitch and that's why it's considered 'next-gen'.
