I can see the advantage of digital pets - too many kids make the "I'll walk him / clean him / otherwise look after him every day" promise and get bored after a month. A virtual pet would mean one less obese dog or hamster living in his own filth.
On the other hand a real pet can teach a child so much about responsibility and looking after another life. Plus they can be great fun.
If I had a PSP this is the exact game I'd play. Maybe I'll buy a PSP...
The amount of money that must have gone into Kinect through development, production and marketing boggles my mind.
