hey peaceful jelly, i understand why you might dislike the game. there were times when i was playing this, the game was so hard, i got very frustrated! but all the other fantastic elements contributed to making this one of my favorite nes games. yes though, it is very subjective! (as are most retro games)
the sequel is coming out for the 3DS. i was hoping for the wii and wii-u as well. i guess it'll depend on how the 3ds version does, though the game feels completely different
nice preview! i like i like
nice article
nice list! liked neverdead for most creative!
thanks CaliGamer, an all-around strong E3 with some really promising new games coming out
thanks bifuteki!
warhawk, you make a really good point in that it shouldn't matter as long as the game is good. but in the listed examples, gender did play a role in the design of the games (i.e. dead or alive xtreme beach volleyball or ffx-2) so the article was an examination of some of the assumptions and prejudices that go into those titles, then flipping them.
brings back a lot of memories! those were amazing moments!
That opening to Silent Hill was real creepy. And yeah, almost every thing in Majora's Mask was odd, including turning into a deku and racing against the clock!
Almost every boss fight in Conker made me go, wtf??? and burst out laughing. This one just took the cake.
@DelbertGrady and @GamerSciz- I completely agree, the battle was pure genius. In fact, I was inspired to do this list while doing a metal gear retrospective and playing the Mantis battle. I picked the Rex vs. Ray battle cause I could only pick one per franchise, but could have easily gone with Psycho Mantis.
HD would be amazing, but even a remake of 1 and 2 for 3DS or for download with updated visuals would be great. i would definitely pick up
naked snake had a really compelling arc, going from protagonist to antagonist, even seeing his future defeat by solid through portable ops. it kind of reminds me of that dark knight line, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
Looking forward to Versus XIII, hope it does all that and more!
I found the battles refreshing and i really liked the complexity of the gambit system which was both complex but simple enough to control the characters. I do love it when Final Fantasy's try new things, and this was a case where I enjoyed the innovation. The only thing I found was that if you set up the gambits right, it made the game too easy. For example, while fighting all three forms of Vayne, I pretty much watched it (aside from doing a few quickenings). still, I was impressed at ho...
One thing that was interesting is that before the Prime series, everyone wanted a game like other M- that is, Metroid in third person. Because the prime series was so successful, people wanted more of prime. I think other M was a great start with some amazing moments. hopefully, they can build on it! and it'd be cool to see if they do anything with metroid on the 3DS.
very good point with which i agree, haha =)
i also did leave out strategy rpg games in this list as i felt they deserved another category, but there are plenty of good ones, including FF tactics, the above mentioned ogre battle, shining force (and part 3 which I loved), disgaea, jean d'arc (a personal favorite) and on and on.
there's some really great RPG mentions and i agree, games like persona 3, xenogears, the tales game, and lost odyssey (as well as dozens of others) should be part of any comprehensive JRPG list. I also tried to limit myself to one game per franchise so I didn't have a list of FF1, 4, 6, 7, 10. thanks for reading and commenting
re: bangoskank: Willow! wow, that takes me back. haha. I also have very fond memories of that game. I guess it doesn't hold up so much on a replay?
re: pixelsword: as I have only 3 bubbles, I want to reply to pixel sword here- yes, I'm going to pick up the 3DS for kid icarus rising as well. hopefully it'll be good! and then they'll put something on the wii-u!
