But, a solution could be very simple: only allow users to change their name a total of 1-4 times over the life of the account. I just want to change it once.

What I want to know is actual numbers.
Why? Because I play online a ton ergo I want people to play with/ against. If there is a low install base, then the cool little niche online games I do play will have a lower chance of having a robust community. That is why sales matter to a gamer.
