"Mass Effect 2 has certainly set the bar in terms of visual fidelity "
Was he being serious? I mean it's a fine looking game with some nice models but it's hardly bar setting especially with other heavy hitters around.
The level of insecurity of those haters are truly pathetic, the 60 short seconds of footage literally expired the previous graphic King Uncharted 2 and now we have entered a whole new realm of benchmark, it is known as God of War III!
Mass effect 2 has some really nice looking character models and interior level designs but the out door environment is still lacking a lot thanks to the dated UE3. I'd say Gears 2 still looked better overall than ME2 but neither holds a candle to the likes of UC2 or GOW3.
Heavy Rain will impress more than UC2 in character models and textures mainly due to the photo realism approach. Also the crowd rendering in HR was amazing with tons of NPCs on screen each almost as detailed as the main character. The environment looks very detailed and realistic with SSAO, HDR, tone mapping and fully modeled controllable objects.
I'd say it's on par with UC2 on an overall technical achievement.
The next game to top either IMO would be God of War 3. The t...
But, will it be 720p and no blurry textures on PS3 this time? 2K wasn't the most honest devs in the world after how they lied about the original being 720p but instead it's 680p on the PS3. Hope they're being honest with the sequel coz we got the pixel counters on their tail.
Starchild I own a ps3, a 360 and a fairly decent PC so I see no reason to side on either. GOW3 just happens to look THAT good and I think the majority agrees with me. Only games released last year that can compete against it are KZ2 and UC2, then again the final build would leapfrog them effortlessly. Excluding a couple of PC games, I really don't see my copies of Gears2 and Res 5 are anywhere close to the technical superiority of GOW3. Feel free to differ though since it's my opinion.
Even though all those 16 games might be good looking but in the end there are BIG difference amongst themselves. Here's how I divide them.
Tier 1
GOW3 "unbelievable scale coupled with ridiculous minute details, a new benchmark in console graphics IMO"
Crysis 2 "PC version, bring on the 2k rig and it's all yours"
Heavy Rain " most photo realistic character ever with stunning lighting"
Tier 2
GT5
The Last Gaurdian <...
Uncharted 2 can challenge it till the new footage gets shown come Feb 11th, then it'll officially loose its graphics crown and have Kratos as the new champion. Heavy Rain has some potential but may lack the scale, only real challenge would be Killzone 3 if gets announced this year.
Dante's Inferno actually looks good sometimes but put next to GOW3 it's suicidal, be certain of that.
The same people who repeatedly bashed this game needs to take a hike and go back to their Halo, Heavy Rain is for mature audiences and clearly you haters don't belong here.
I mean seriously after seeing the new GOW3 shots now these, feels like I went back a generation or two in the graphics department. Halo Reach has to reach harder if it wants to compete with the big boys in 2010 coz right now it's not even close at least in the visual department. Being an owner of PS3 and 360 I feel cheated by MS for not trying to up the ante in their product.
I thought God of war III would get the honor of doing that first but guess Heavy Rain just couldn't help it and steal the show earlier. Graphically speaking Heavy Rain's character models definitely look better than UC2's if anything.
Kratos roars: Give the competition nothing! But take from them, EVERYTHING!
But seriously, nothing next year interest me more than GOW3, delay FFXIII to June for all I care.
The PS3's shots do look slightly sharper but aside from that they are almost carbon copy of one another. Both versions looked like dog feces compared to Killzone2 and let's just see how many incompetent reviewers are gonna give the game 10/10 in graphics.
If a 20min months old GOW3 demo can be compared to the current pinnacle of console graphics "Uncharted 2", it speaks big volume to the full game doesn't it? People must realize we have just touched the surface of GOW3, imagine how grand the fight with fire Titan would look, the while riding Gaia sequence etc, put things in perspective man!
God of war 3, The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain are all mind blowing worthy especially GOW3's epicness. Crysis 2 on consoles remained to be seen, the rest are all good looking but just not up there with the big boys.
I think GOW3 has more potential than Heavy rain for surpassing UC2's graphics mainly due to the epic proportion of titan levels. Rage looked good but the character models are borderline Doom3 level. The rest from that list has no chance by a country mile.
YES! Bring on the Killzone 3! I expect a better written story and voice acting as well as more variations in levels. Have a feeling that the jump in visual quality will shock us even beyond Uncharted 2 did.
If I recall correctly, the man stated ps3 is theater experience, 360 is DVD movie and wii is your kids flick.
Isn't it funny everything is all taking place now? OK,non semantically speaking PS3's HDD, Blu-ray drive, power of CELL, and developer talents ALL have something to do with it more or less. Fact of matter is awesome games are materializing and each one seems to surpass the predecessor graphically, put it simply if you want top quality visual experience just get a ps3, it really ...
The MLAA employed in GOW3 might be an even more advanced version so expecting nothing less than perfect iq.
