Isn't the whole idea of playing a video game that we're using a virtual character to represent some version of ourselves, whether it's through accuracy or wish-fulfillment of some sort?
Yeah. Being able to play how you want is a huge benefit to this tech. Even if your preferences are super niche, you can control your games the way you think feels best.
I don't think you read the entire article. The author is basically laying out two approaches Capcom could take. 1. Leaving the game as is (which is the version the author claimed to have wanted), or 2. Making drastic changes to modernize it.

So what you're really saying is that it's safe to assume that Ness will be in the game, though there is no official confirmation. That's a lot different than saying he IS in the game.

I feel like you and I read a completely different article. The article I read didn't say anything about you specifically, and it didn't mention anything about people who loved the game being wrong. There was certainly nothing about old games all being bad. In fact, the title of the article even says the game isn't terrible.

The thing is, though, you can't throw a stone without hitting an article about OOT's greatness. The game genuinely has flaws, and hardly anyone ever talks about them. Not that it's not a great game. It's just a flawed game. And that's fine. It's just that bias on OOT swings overwhelmingly toward the positive.
This person wrote an article claiming so, so I think it's safe to assume at least one person thinks this statement is true.
