It's not that they couldn't make it compatible, but the disc runs of a certain hardware.
They could put a ps3 in a ps4, but then it would cost way more than 400 dollars

While the boot up really doesnt matter to me, the vita is the most unappealing to me as well
It first shows the logo, then a bunch of warnings on the screen, then the startphoto, all no sound
The PS4 looks like something anyone can do in office powerpoint
But like i said, that doesnt really bother me and te sounds of PS1 and PS2 are more nostalgic than anything else

The PS3 works with a cellprocessor, the kind you wont find ANYWHERE else. The cell is actually really powerfull and can definetly get some beautifull results ... if you know how to use it.
The problem was, this was a whole new way to code their games. Yes, the codes of the games remain the same, but in order to run it, you had a whole different structure.
On top of that, Sony only gave PS3's away to their first party developers, so third party developers pretty much where ...
