No, BR doesn't need "saving" like DVD didn't need saving. In fact, BR is well ahead of DVD at this point in their lifetimes. Now, TDK will catapult BR into the wider public's eye, but only lower prices will launch it into the mainstream market.
BR movie prices WILL go down, so no worries.
