Th asteroid bit has me a little more worried, as that's something that I can tangibly see happening. Unless of course the US Navy finishes their Rail Gun program, then I can see the asteroid being less of a problem.
Honestly? I doubt the vast majority of people are ready to jump to the next generation when we've still got a good bit of life left in this one.
