I'm not sure how far back in gaming your experience takes you. But I remember playing as a kid on the Intellivision and Commador64. Each generation I was ecstatic to see and play the advancements as console gaming progressed. Heck I remember playing pong. So I can appreciate what consoles are giving this gen game wise.

This is corporate brilliance. They see an opportunity and they go for it.
It may work and it may not. People with banned PS3 will have a library still and may want a new PS3 to continue playing their games on regardless if they are retail or pirate.

Not from what I am seeing. Kinect is as strong as ever and the 360 is still selling extremely well. MS has 2 of the best selling and highest rated franchises coming out this year (Forza being the highest rated racing sim and Gears of War being the highest selling new IP this gen where both are AAA status games).

I agree with Otherzinc. Killzone 2 had the "wow" factor with it's visuals and nothing more. I enjoyed the multiplayer but I would say it was a slight step back from being "generic" as CoD is a "generic" franchise. You should really pick it up. It's cheap now and has an amazing story and even better cut scenes.
RDR was an RPG? Not my version of it.
I think currently Mass Effect holds the title for best western RPG. Looking forward to playing Skyrim to see if the title once again belongs to The Elder Scrolls IP.

1. Uncharted 2 doesn't have online co-op that is apart of the same single player campaign.
