The story was changed a lot already. This was not the start to a trilogy of FFVII remakes, its a reboot, kinda reminds me at Mortal Kombat 9 in 2011 and how it changed the continuation of the story completely.
Instead Clould will die in the 2nd or 3rd part of the reboot trilogy.
Just make it a Trilogy of the remasters, all together for 4 bucks just like the Halo remasters on Steam

Only a matter of time until the development has to stop because the devs are dumb and made this public from the start. Its going to be one of the many great looking Nintendo fan projects that get the c&d letter sooner or later.
If a new game is marketed as a remake of the 23 year old game, but it does not even cover around 10% of the story & world of the 23 year old game..something is just wrong.
Its a good game, but calling it the Final Fantasy VII Remake..when it is like 10% of the classic Story ..but with a lot of filler materia..l added I wonder when the whole Remake is complete. In 2030? No..this is not the remake I wanted and expected back when it was revealed at the E3..2015.
