The question isn't why is everyone caring, it's more of who is caring.

I'm pretty sure MS were newbies when they first released the Xbox. Now look at them. Being second place in overall console sales this generation is impressive for being a "newbie".

When those type of articles pop up, they usually refer to a set period of time. I remember certain publishers stating the PS3 made them more money at one point, but that was because of a certain game releasing that hasn't been released on PS3 yet, example: Bioshock.

I didn't agree or disagree. Nintendo had a decent conference, but I'd rather have new ips instead of the constant Mario, Zelda, rinse, repeat, ohh look Metroid. Same goes with Microsoft(Halo, Gears, etc) and Sony(Ratchet, MGS, etc) but moreso with Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, I love those franchises, I just wish we had more original games. I know Nintendo can do it, they're just not.

First of all Sony didn't copy anything. Sony has always been interested in motion control. Nintendo were just the first ones to get out a finished product.
Second of all, achievements were a great addition to 360's features but this would have been done in some form later on by any of the 3 companies. Again, they were the first ones to implement it perfectly.

Actually sales relate to POPULARITY and marketing! Wii Fit is popular among the Wii fanbase. Halo and COD are popular FPS games. GTA is the popular sandbox game. See the trend?
