You didn't list your processor. That actually might be the thing holding you back an r9 290 is a Beast. But it is AMD are you using an AMD processor?
Intel is 2 generations ahead in terms of performance above AMD's best line of processors. If you are using an AMD chip odds are that is your bottleneck.
Also there is something to be noted about Nvidia Vs ATI/AMD in the driver department. Nvidia has been making Big Strides latel...

There is something truly magnificent about a well organized functional Piece of software. You look through the code and think, How the hell did they think to implement this.
Its the kinda thing where you're like I want to add this feature and the software just says ok because it just works, no bugs or random errors in the structure of the system to stand in your way.

when ps3/360 came out 512mb was a lot of ram only top end pcs had 2gb.
This isn't an insult to consoles as most of you will find it to be its just a statement of fact that repeats itself near the end of every generation.
Consoles also tend to have 16x the ram of their predecessor. which seems to have continued this gen as well.

The reason emulators are so costly to performance is that they usually cannot contain any of the original execution code. So the developers of the emulator need to re-invent the wheel so to speak. If sony made an official emulator it could be achieved with much less hardware requirements. Especially since sony has all the keys to all the backdoors needed to achieve perfect emulation.
Not to say they would do that, but it could be done with much less power than if the emulato...
