The reason why PS4 still hasn't sold that well in Japan is because gamers there still holding on until the games they want are released, just look at most wanted game polling in Japan in recent years: Persona 5, FFXV, Dragon Quest, etc.. now that they'll finally released this year I believe PS4 sales will receive huge boost in Japan.
there's FFXV, Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI. This year PS4 will conquer Japan, and everyone else who grew up in the JRPG golden age like me.
For the western shore they got UC4, Horizon, Gran Turismo..
Oh, and The Last Guardian, damn, that's a lot of long awaited games if you ask me.

lol, XBL is a barren wasteland outside NA/UK. Only those who can afford multiple consoles or loyal fans are going to buy XB1 outside those territories...
MS is too focused on pleasing NA/UK, outside, the support is slow, amazing deal is practically non-existent, cloud server location is faraway so you can guess how big the latency are, and it has some great multiplayer games but very few people has XBL for it to make an impact.

true that, I was gonna buy XB1 for Halo 5 and RotR, but when I read the campaign isn't as good and there's Fallout 4 released the exact same day as RotR I held up and bought Pip Boy edition instead..
Now currently waiting for another reason haha, there's only very few people playing XB1 in my country so anything multiplayer-centric is a bust...

XB1 is a great console, sadly not every region provide an even battleground for it to do its best.
Probably the most disadvantaging factor is the fact that in many countries gamers already adopt PS as their main console since way back in PSX era. Surely most people will buy console where all their friends are, and hardly people who can only afford 1 console choose the one where they'll be left out.
And then there's the fact that outside NA/UK you can barely find any ...
